Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

Several problems ... now no power at all!

I have a Whirpool dryer, which was purchased about 4-5 years ago. It gets good use, considering we are a family of 5, including three small children. We realized over a year ago that the buzzer on the timer quit working. More recently though (within the past couple months), we first noticed that the dryer is turning off on it's own, before the set amount of time has been reached. Next, I noticed that instead of just having to quickly press the start button to start a drying cycle, we've been having to hold the start button in for several seconds. Finally, this morning I bounced up a load of clothes for about 15 minutes, then went to start drying a new load, and it wouldn't start. At first, it sounded like it was going to start, but instead of starting up after holding in the start button for several seconds, this time it suddenly quit working all together; no longer making any sound or movement. I left it alone for about 20 minutes, then made another attempt to start it, but got the same result as before. Only, this time all sound/movement stopped even sooner. I removed the back panel, and all wires seem to be attached securely. The vent is cleaned every other load, without fail. Can someone help me, please?!?

I have a eurotech dryer model # EDC 158. Where can I purchase a latch assembly for it?

I have just spent 2 days trying to find a belt for a eurotech edc 158 Dryer. The company went out of business a few years ago and there is only one place to get parts. Call 972-941-1900. You will have to leave a message for a call back. Belt is $61 with shipping. They indicated they replacement parts will be available for 4 more years.

Historically, how long should this dryer last? We purchased our home (dryer included) 20 years ago.

Depends on the dryer and the usage.. I know that dose not help. Dryers especially the old ones are very simple appliances. If you are having problems you can purchase a repair manual at almost any appliance parts house. In 40 years I have never owned a new dryer...

Our dryer has no heat. Is it worth fixing?

Hello ES Bailey,

The answer depends on a couple of other considerations first. If the dryer has been a good perfoming appliance for most of the time and hasn't had any major issues or constant repairs needed, it would be less expensive to repair the dryer than to buy new.

Some other things to consider, is the interior drum of the dryer still in good shape/condition? If so, repairs will be cheaper than buying a new dryer every time.

If the washing machine you have is getting ready for replacement, you might want to consider buying a whole new set of laundry appliances, but again, it makes more sense to buy only the appliance you need, rather than getting all new ones. Unless money isn't an issue and you're looking to get a newer style front loading washer, etc.

My only other advice is to say that there is nothing much in the way of technology or energy savings features for a dryer made today than one made 15 years ago. There is no such thing as an energy start rated dryer made anywhere in the world, unless you're hanging clothes on a clothesline to dry. So the only thing you'd get by buying a new dryer is, a new dryer at a higher price than the repair will be.

If it were me, I'd post a new question with the brand AND model number of the dryer and provide some details on gas or electric and so on and get some advice on how to fix the problem yourself and keep using it for years to come.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

In my case, the problem was a dead main board. The board cost $190 and the overall repair cost $335. I will never buy another Whirlpool due to this experience.

L G DRAYER , HEATER NOT WORKING

Had the same problem on a whirpool drayer. Get our multimeter and check which heat fuse is broken. Take that one out and throw it in the floor until you have conductivity again. Clean drayer vents and heater. This worked for me, good luck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuFQOuSlzlw

I found advice on the Fisher Paykel web site that suggested the problem could be the door lock. In fact the catch had not properly engaged & when I fixed that the dryer worked.
