Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Is it feasible to take apart the transmission on a Maytag Peforma and tryto fix the transmission? I already have everything apart, but can't get the top plastic and other items off of the shaft, so I can access the top of the transmission. (The transmission won't rotate CW to let the drum spin, but works fine CCW for agitation.)

Maytag performa. wtaer will not drain.machine will not wash or spin

The motor ia attached to the transmission. This is called a direct drive system. Between the motor and the transmission is a coupler. The coupler has sheared apart causing your problem. The coupler is very inexpensive although it will take a little muscle to replace

How do I remove tub from the transmission? I see a nut? with 8 tabs, but it won't turn?

is this a maytag atlantis? you nees a special wrench to take the nut of the transmission shaft. DOes it have the circular plate inside? you might need a special spanner wrench for thos and be carefull tho, becaus if this is the maytag model im thinking about, underneath the transmission there a plate with a bunch of screws holding it down...DO NOT UNSREW ANY OF THEM!!!!! if you do not habe the special tools for it you will get hurt because there is a thick spring tha is under 200 pounds of pressure under that plate(which is the stator plate) and if you start taking it apart it will shoot up and cause damage and even serious injury...i would look into the special tools you need.

Mav7600 won't agitate

It is your Transmission. Mine did the EXACT same thing just a couple days after your post. If you want some troubleshooting advice, part numbers, where I bought my parts, or advice on disassembly/reassembly, I will be glad to help. The truth is, I already wrote a detailed answer to your problem and before I posted it I read the "Terms of Use" page, and when I went back to the "solutions" page, everything I wrote was gone. So, if you want it, let me know and I will try again.

Maytag washer is leaking

There are special tool designed to dissassemble this unit although it can be broken down without them if care is taken.

Having the model and serial number would help but be assured that the threading is standard (Rightie tighty, lefty loosy)

Maytag used different designs. Repair depends on the model/serial number. With this information I may be able to step you through the repair.

Knowing the age of your machine would be a plus in determining if repair is economically feasible.

Maytag neptune washing machine

Who told you the transmission is defective??? I have worked on my Neptune and it has a belt going from the motor to the drum - there is no transmission. I don't know the model number of my washer, but it is a Maytag Neptune from 2002; I think they all have used the same basic design without a transmission ever since they came out.

Maytag washer sav models

If you have the topload maytag as listed, It is possible for a transmission to have both symptoms, but it doesn't usually happen as you describe. If something came apart inside the clutch causing the shaft to pull up and keep the brake released, but also allowed the clutch to slip, this is possible.

I would suspect a brake or thrust bearing or both before a transmission. If you are able to turn the basket easily by hand, the brake is not applying for some reason. The thrust bearing will wear down so that it doesn't completely release the brake causing a slow spin. I find these two parts to cause more trouble than transmissions, but I do find bad transmissions occasionaly also.  Post back if you want to know how to check them.
