Thanks for trying, but the wireless adapter is enabled, it's the wireless LAN button that is disabled.  If I push this button, it does not respond.  I am also unable to enable it through HP Wireless Assistant.

After one month of trying everything, I finally figures this one out.  First turn off and restart your computer.  Then press F10 to enter the System BIOS Settings.  Select F9 (Setup Defaults) and when it asks Load Default Configuration Now? , Enter YES.  Then, press F10 (Save and Exit) and when it asks Save Configuration Changes And Exit Now, Enter YES.  This should restore the wireless LAN button to its original factory settings.  Once you restart the computer the button will be listed as disabled, but press on the button and it should work again.  I hope this helps someone else out!

The wireless network symbol stays orange even when the wireless is enabled (says "on"). This prevents the computer from accessing any networks and I can't get online.

Thanks for the post. My sis-in-law had the same problem and I couldn't figure it out. Set the BIOS back to defaults and that did the trick. (DId have to turn the WLAN radio back on, but that was it.)

Go to the control panel, hardware, device manager. Uninstall the wireless adapter then restart the laptop.
You can also download the HP wireless assistant:

I have an HP Pavillion 7000 series. I was shocked to lean that the wireless network symbol light was touch-activated. Just slide your finger over the wireless network symbol light to the right or left and you can change the light from blue to orange (activate or deactivate).

Hello,

HP provides a utility that makes it easy to turn on/off wireless adapters or bluetooth. Simply type in Hp Wireless assistant in the Search bar and it will find it.. Fairly easy to use - You can also manually turn it on or off by using the quick launch button that is located on top of the keyhboard area and shows an Antennae with some lines around it. Here is a document that will help.

First, go to Device Manager > Network Adapters and make sure that you wireless adapter is enabled. A red X indicates a disabled wireless adapter.

Second, look for the wireless adapter switch on the laptop. Check you laptop's documentation for the wireless switch. It's either a physical, sliding switch on the side of the laptop or it's a key combination on the keyboard. Make sure it's ON.

Good luck and have a nice day!

I am having trouble connecting to the internet because my WLAN has been turned off, how do I turn my wireless back on?

From the HP website:

The power to the wireless network and bluetooth devices is controlled by a switch or button on most computers. It is possible to accidentally bump the button and turn off the wireless service. c02230159.jpg On most computers, there is an LED light that glows blue when the wireless device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled. Some newer models use different a different color scheme. To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
  1. To turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position. On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel above the keyboard.
  2. To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon c02228164.gif and select Open Wireless Assistant . Click Turn On . The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon c02228163.gif will display.

Hi There,

Here are the steps you need to follow.

Many laptops come with a control key or button to disable the wireless radio to save power. First try looking to see if you find one, then turn on the radio. Post back with more info if that doesn't work.

Can't connect to the computer wireless

Laptops have an option to turn off the wireless, you basically have to turn on your laptop and hold the FN key and look for your key that has a little atenna with signals and press that together with the FN key, you should be good, if that doesnt work then check your device settings and make sure something didnt disable your wireless card.

How to repair the wireles switch from a hp pv 9000 notebook

Check to see if the wireless adapter has been disabled in the device manager. If it has been turned off there it will stay disabled no matter what you do with the switch.

Best way to get there is by:
  1. Right-click on my computer and select Manage
  2. Select Device Manager on the left hand panel
  3. Select the Network Adapters category on the right panel
  4. Look for your wireless adapter in the list. If it is disabled the right-click and enable.
If you don't have a wireless card listed then you have a bigger issue and will need to get that repaired.
