Could be a diode, a capacitor or the magnetron. 20 percent would be a diode or a capacitor and 80 percent would be a bad magnetron.

Easy to fix a microwave that's not heating - or throw away?

They are relatively easy to fix, but perhaps, not cost-effective. It depends on the age. I never bother with anything over 8 years old unless it's a very inexpensive fix. If the high voltage rectifier is bad, I'd fix. If the magnetron is bad, I would not fix. Other possible causes of the problem exist, too.

Sharp R305KS Stainless Steel 1100 Watts Microwave Oven problems:1.5 years old. We put in a microwave popcorn bag and had bright flashes going off as though there was metal left in there and gurgling...it...

unplug microwave.
Take ALL dishes out of the microwave and do a proper check of the inside the cooking area. If you are sure that's ok put the glass dish back in if it has one.

Test that the oven and grill are still functional.?

Do they heat up? If they do then get one of those microwaveable bowls or dishes and put some water into it. Place it back into the microwave and do the check again on microwave heating.

Does it bang or spark again?
If it does and the other heating is OK then the Magnatron to me sounds as it's on it's last legs.
That does not mean you have to scrap the microwave if it is the Magnatron. as a new one can be purchased and installed.

Hello there:
If it It sounds normal, and seems to run ok but there's no heat When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the megatron or power inverter or the circuit board may have a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician. ok hope this helps best regards mike

Microwave won't heat anything

take the cover off the machine and look for a 13amp fuse that supplys the tranformers. BEWARE!!!
when you open the machine disconnect from the mains and do not touch the high power circuits the capacitors can hold a charge that can kill.

Not heating

Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
