Display on Compaq Presario V2665US notebook cuts in and out.

right clicking the trackpad not the external usb mouse ????
you broke the cable to the track pad. switch set.
working on any laptop takes skills, to not do more damage
that you fix, even a pro makes this error. all do.
the cables are FRAIL, so are the sockets for them frail and break so very easy.
use a real USB mouse.
or go back inside and fix your damage.
its just a switch set and cables.
the pad part has its own electronics and its own cable and drivers.

if lucky only putting cable back fixes it.
do you know how to lock and unlock laptop ribbon connector locks and not damage them.
this is a first things first set of skills.
ask. (there are 3 kinds, what you have id have to look)
each kind uses different skills to work them. and not wreck them.

Time to upgrade, its not hard, the USA is in glut status in used PC. (vast numbers are scrapped here)
or sent to 3rd world. (on ships)

no photos of said lines, pretty hard to tell in words what a complex screen shows. no? my guess is the screen is bad.
that is why you found it for nothing (hope) and 50 to $100 fix plus labor.
this no monitor, its Laptop screen so there are NO size buttons.
right click the screen desktop see those choices, that is all you get.
or control panel click display ,wysiwyg.

the lines,
if you gently twist the screen with 2 hands, do the lines change
i bet yes, telling you what?, "bad screen"

if you plug in a Desktop VGA screen to the rear.
then push FN+F4 key and pick external or both , bingo
you get that external screen working and now it works , right?

this PC is now listed as retired at HP
best is to own a PH that is 10 years or less old.

The line is there because the connections to those pixels are bad so they end up uncommanded - fully open all the time. To fix it you will have to dismantle the lid and reseat the connectors to the LCD panel.

TRY TO CONNECT THE VGA OF YOU EXTERNAL MONITOR, IF THER IS A DISPLAY THE LCD OF YOU LOPTOP ARE DIFFECTIVE

donate for parts............or get a computer tech to switch it out. Look on ebay for your computer. Sometimes you can get a parts computer really cheap on there. Then get a computer gyro to switch the parts.

When you remove your memory, the motherboard model number is located under it.
