Question about Canon MP520 All-In-One InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

Canon MP520 Scanner / printer

I keep getting a message saying that one of the ink tanks (the yellow one) can't be recognised. The tank is the original Canon tank that came with the device and is about 3/4 full. When I remove the offending tank and replace it, the red light comes back on, but as soon as I close the cover and the carriage moves position that tank's red light goes off and the error message comes onto the screen. It's not letting me do anything at all. I can't even scan anything.

Please help.

I have the same exact problem as you stated above... I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one stuck in such a hole. This problem is so annoying it makes me regret my decision to buy this printer somewhat...

Hopefully someone will rescue us from this problem soon!!

I'm having the same problem with the magenta colour. Can anybody give any advice? I'm able to copy once in a while in black, but that's after turning the printer off and on and adjusting the ink tank several times - very, very frustrating!!!

I have the same problem of the yellow tank (original) which came with the printer. Any solutions would be appreciated!

I have the same problem, only it's with all 3 color cartridges. I have tried everything i can think of but nothing works. Occasionaly 1 or 2 of tanks gets recognized but then the 3rd one stuffs it all up again after closing the cover.

I thought the printer was quite a good one but after spending more money on cartridges that are now totally un-useable i regret buying it.

This is down to a hardware error in the tank itself. Only remedy is to replace the ink tank and not use refilled or copy tanks.

Hi Guy,
I believe that what you mean is 'Waste Ink Tank Is Full' error on Canon MP520.
To fix this problem, first you need to reset waste ink counter of the printer then you should replace the ink absorber with new one.
In order to reset waster ink counter properly, you can read complete procedure how to reset waste ink counter of the printer below:

Do you have all Genuine Canon Ink Jet Cartridges?
If you don't then that could be the problem.
Otherwise, if you do, then I would try another yellow ink jet cartridge from Canon.

My IP6600d has suddenly refused to print, saying 'the following ink tank cannot be recognised'. It says its the yllow cartridge, which is half used and a genuine canon item. I have tried taking it out and...

Have you checked the quality of the chip on the yellow ink tank? If scratched, the printer will not be able to read the ink tank information and will stop. I had to replace an ink tank in the past with another one with a new chip due to the first one was defective. If you have a spare yellow tank with chip, you may want to replace the old one so you can continue on.
