Laptop not living

Hi there I have a HP DV 2000 Laptop which one min was on the next it had just gone off, everyting was lit the on light and I can hear a sound inside maybe the fan or something, but no picture on the screen, when it is switched on I hear a seires of beeps and then nothing else, I did have it looked at briefly and the guy in the shop said he had done a quick test all the taking out of memory ETC: and said it looks like my motherboard may have gone, If you think this sounds drf like the problem, can I buy a replacement board for it and If so where can I purchase one.

Thanx
Janet

    Hello,

Thank you for a quick reply, no my laptop won't show anything on the screen at all, I tried pressing all sorts of buttoons too, I have a touch volume when I touch this it makes the normall sound of the touching when it turns up, but no sound from speakers or anything, If it is the fan it is very quiet but maybe it's the hard drive or something.

    Thanx again

When the laptop boots up can you press F2, F10 or DEL to enter a bios setup screen?

    Hi,

What time of day, and what time zone are you in, when you can work this problem with me. I presume you have the laptop at hand while you use another computer to communicate. Yes?

    OK, good. I'm GMT-7.

I'll drop you a note when I have some time to work with you a little later on. I have meeting to get to and run an IT shop during the day.

    We are here to help.

I'll be in and out, dropping in to check on matters.

With an HP computer the F key to tap while you first press power is the F10 key in almost all cases.

With the Laptop fully powered off, not in Sleep or Hibernation, Press Power and then, as if at a piano, tap the F10 key in four/four time. This should bring up the System Setup screens often called the Bios Setup program.

In your case, its not clear to me if you're powered off or in Hibernation (the default for laptops). So, removed external power. Remove the laptop battery and leave the battery out for a full minute or so. Re-insert the battery apply the external power. Press Power, then tap the F10 key in four/four time.

Let me know the results. Should you get into the bios setup screen, stop... leave the laptop untouched, tell me and I'll give you some instructions.

Thanks. This is the first step in troubleshooting your problem. I think I know what to expect but we have to do this part, sorry.

    Regards,
    Worldvet

I have a hp pavillion 2000 . it heats up then shuts down after 15 min how do i fix this

hi there

i would say by adding some thermal compound on the heatsink , that sits in the CPU, would remedy the issue. i have also found some information from HP, see link below
use air-can (compressed) to spray away the dust from the computer, in around the fan area.
this should help you

My computer will not start.

No way to tell for sure, but the "messed up image with stripes" suggests a video component. Unfortunately most laptop components are not replaceable, which means you probably need a new laptop. Save your hard drive, the data on it is still there and you will be able to either copy the files you need or just connect it to your next computer.

Display problem with dv 2000 laptop

I bet you have no display at all but everything powers on. If you hook it up to an external monitor it has no video either. These motherboards have a chipset issue and will require either a motherboard repair (some people have had some luck) or a new motherboard. There are no guarantees how long the new motherboard will last either. Although it may sound expensive I would suggest replacing the laptop unless you can get an inexpensive board and someone to install it
