Replace the CMOS battery. Now known as the RTC Battery.
(Real Time Clock)
I believe 6C372759Q is the -> Serial Number
Toshiba = Manufacturer name
Satellite = Model Series
C855D = Model Series number
S5203 = Model number
Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5203
The above info just tells you what Toshiba laptop it is. NO personal information.
What you did was good for me, bad for you.
Explanation; In the old days I read that a bad guy, would use the Serial Number to find out the person's name, and home address. Or the name, and address the computer was listed to have been sold to.
Then they would watch the house, and find the homeowners schedule. (Case the house) Then rob the house. They know for one, the laptop is there.
I believe that......makes sense......makes the hair on the back of my neck go up too!
(Also read, that if they can tap into your computer, and see that you have a calendar on the desktop screen, with appointments set; they have your schedule. Know when you will be home, or doctors appointment, kids to xxxxx practice, dentists visit, vacation, etc)
Yes, I will be alerting FixYa staff to remove it.
It was good for me though, so I can find out exactly what Toshiba laptop we're talking about here.
1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
2) Buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap. Connect it's alligator clip to a good ground source.
Electro Static Discharge. Here is but one example,
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103245You have to disassemble the laptop, in order to access the RTC (CMOS) battery. The RTC Battery is on the -> Bottom of the motherboard. Access is after removing motherboard out of Base Enclosure (Bottom Cover).
You have to disassemble from the Top down.

This enables the Zoom In feature. Now move to the Right. See the round silver looking thing with the Blue dot on it?
RTC Battery. It's a watch type battery. Looks like a CR2032, as used in most desktop computers. HOWEVER, the number will be on the battery. May NOT be a CR2032. May be smaller.
Post back in a Comment if this is what you wish to do. If you want I will try my best to step by step you through it. If not peel off $75 to $125 for a computer repair shop to perform this.
(They get paid for their technical knowhow...Not how physically hard the job is..........)
For additional questions please post in a Comment.
