It is not a question of water line . It seems to be a venting problem . The smell from the septic tank seems to seap back into the laundry room , eather by the washing machine drain or somrthing else. The toilet is a GLACIER BAY bought at Home Depot. Do you know if there is aproblem with these toilets?

Toilet BLUBS downstairs when flushed upstairs.

Your sewer vent may be clogged, or if you are in the northern climates, frosted shut. When you flush the toilet the water displaces the air in the drain piping. The vent gives the air somewhere to go. If the vent is plugged the dispaced air forces it's way out through the path of least resistance( the lower toilet in this case).Pour some hot water down the vent where it comes through the roof to thaw it out.or run a snake down the vent. Hope this helps.

I've had a saniplus toilet system (with toilet and sink) for about 10 years. Suddenly stopped working as well. The macerator pump runs in shorter bursts and the water level in the toilet goes down

You should check the 1 1/2" vent pipe if there is one attached to the top of the pump casing. The vent pipe must be vented to the open air, outside of the house so the unit can breath air in and out at all times. A lack of airflow usually creates this type of problems. Leave the vent connection open to the room and flush the toilet, you will see the difference when pumping.

After flushing the tank and bowl both refil properly. After about 20 minutes the water in the bowl has decreased about 1-2 inches. The tank is still full. Not sure what the cause and/or fix is

Vent pipe may need cleaning out, vent stops up your system has to get air to work so it will take it from where it can get it and the toilet maybe the easied place.
You may have a vent pipe that may be partly blocked or clogged up. To check a vent pipe out you can have someone fill a sink or tub up to the flood level rim and plug the drain. Have them remove the stopper and watch the toliet you have had issues wit to see any water movement. Once you deteemine which one is the cause you can snake the vent pipe or run a water hose down the vent and turn it on to flush out the vent pipe.

Hope this will help you out.

Is it possiable to dyi a new install of a toliet. Includeing the rough pluming ?

Of course it is possible, It is a fairly simple job. But, depending on how you are routing the pipes, will be the tough part. Plus running a cold supply line to the tank. Where is the soil/drain/ 3 inch pipe located compared to the potential new spot? Do you have enough room for the pitch? How about the cleanout? Vent behind the line? It will need to be vented somewhere close or it wont flush. A diy book on toilets should explain all this to you. Hope this helps.

My saniflo has started to go slow- it now does small pumps - one every 30 seconds so takes 5 minutes to drain the bowl. I'm pretty sure no foreign objects have gone into it as it's only me and my wife...

Typically when solids don't leave the toilet after one flush or if it short cycles like is doing, then is definitely a pressure problem. Is the unit vented via an 1 1/2" vent pipe to the open air? Please disconnect the vent pipe and leave the vent connection open to the room, flush the toilet and check if it makes a difference. Air must flow in and out of the vent pipe at all times so it can work properly. An obstruction on the vent pipe can cause this issue. Also could be calcium build up inside the rim of the bowl. Pour a few cups of vinegar on the toilet tank and then flush the toilet, it should get rid of calcium right away.

Bad smell fro macerator when toilet flushed after being left overnight

Typically on macerating or grinder pumps there is a small 1/2" breather hole on top of the lid, about the size of a dime or nickel. That breather hole must be kept plugged or seal cap. If left open, odor will escape through there. Make sure the pump is vented using an 1 1/2" vent pipe which must be vented to the open air so air can flow in and out of the vent pipe at all times. Also you might want to check for loose connection or waste water leaking from the pump, toilet or any of the connections.

How can I minimise the smell of my macerator

The pump has a 1/2" breather hole and an 1 1/2" vent connection. The unit must be vented to the open air using the 1 1/2" vent connection, air must flow in and out of the vent pipe at all times. The 1/2" breather hole is only used for European installations. In the US you must keep it plugged or seal capped, if left open odor will emmit through there.

When toilet is flushed the pump will continue to pump.

The air breather hole must be kept plugged in the US as odors will emmit through there is left open. I was told that it was only used for European installations. In the US the breather hole mut be kept plugged or seal capped. You must vent the unit using an 1 1/2" vent pipe and must be vented to the open air. As per plbg. codes it should be attached to the main vent stack or all the way through the roof.

If you cannot vent it properly, the cheater vent will work fine. Cut in a tee wye (TY) withing that 5 feet and aim up. Cut a piece of pipe so it is at least 6 inches above the flood level rim of the washer, attach a female adapter and screw in the pro vent (cheater vent). Good luck.
