Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 3 Typewriter

1 Answer

Wheelwriter 5 We have a Wheelwriter 5 typewriter. Everytime I try to type nothing appears on the paper? It moves back and forth with ease with no problem. The ribbon and correctabe ribbon looks fine. I've taken the ribbon out and snapped it back into the typewriter. No words appear on the paper when I type. Nothing! Do you know what the problem is?

You probably need the plastic cap that is on the proint solenoid, they are available but a little tricky to install.

Why doesn't my new corrector ribbon/ink ribbon work? The wheel advances-nothing shows on paper.

Put in a multi-part form, type if the carbon is OK the problem is with the ribbon. Look at the ribbon if there is an impression on the ribbon but no ink transfer the ribbon is very ols, if there is no impression then the ribbon isn't lifting. THere ix a 2" black gear on the right side of the printer it should move easily if not wiggle it back and forth they get tooth for tooth with the drive gear.

IBM Wheelwriter 6 typewriter. The print wheel does not move when typing and acts as if in stencil mode

From your posting it sounds like you have cracked plastic print solenoid cap. We sell them for 20.00 with instructions.

Print head moves left and stays horrible noise

The problem is either something is interfering with the carrier movement OR the carrier homing sensor is broken/defective. First, turn off the power and manually move the carrier to the right side frame, check for foreign objects in the machine (pens, pushpins, paper clips etc.). Put some oil (10 weight) on a cloth and clean the chrome shaft that the carrier travels on.(by the rubber cogged belt). This is a common problem. If the sensor itself is the problem, take to a repair shop.(not common)

Paper doesn't load properly in typewriter

The platen shouldn't be too hard to remove; what you describe could be caused by the residue of labels which can be removed by lighter fluid or pure alcohol.
If removing it appears too difficult, try putting a broad stripe of one of the above across the width of the paper and then try again moving it side-to-side.

Right Margin

First with the T/W off move carrier back and forth checking for binds or anything binding the carrier if there are no forgien objects try a little WD40 on the shaft that the carrier slides on. DickyO

You probably have a broken plastic cap on the print solenoid plunger, they are available but a little tricky to install.

Check chrome carriage rail, make sure is clean with a slight amount of oil such as 3 n1. move printer back and forth, does it move smoothly. Also could be a bad on and off switch they do go bad I stock them just for this reason. Some times to get to work drip a small and I mean small amount of WD40 down the orange or red switch to allow it to get into switch contacs.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 (Setting the Margin back to 5"

Sounds like you don't know how to set l. margin or you have some debris in the typewriter. Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand, if so turn it on 7 return to l. margin press mar rel key, backspace to where you want the margin and press l. margin key.

hope this helps

Wheelwriter 6

You may need a ribbon motor or motor board, however on the older wheelwriters sometimes the gear mesh gets sloppy and gears jam tooth for tooth. Try moving the ribbon lift gear/cam on rt. side of the carrier by hand with the machine off if it won't move that's the trouble. Wiggle it back and forth and it may free up.
