Question about Ecoquest Fresh Air Air Purifier

Fresh air 2.0: Unit cycles on and off.

Ecoquest  fresh air 2.0. unit cycles on and off in high mode and away mode. it runs in normal mode. as the unit cycles off, the uv lamp lights up, fades, and goes out. unit has been cleaned and plate was replaced.

    Unit runs for a short time and then turns off. It seems to be purifying, but cycles on and off. Any help would be appreciated!

    Mine has been doing the same thing for many months now. I spoke with Ecoquest about it, and they said I'd have to send it in for repair. That would cost $195 (includes shipping), and would get me a new warranty. The price seems fairly steep to me if there's a chance it's something pretty simple to repair, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

    I have exactly the same problem for several months already! At first, it only cycled on and off when operating in "high" setting or "AWAY" mode. But now, it does that even in "Low" setting. I think it's the main control board that's bad but I certainly hope someone knows exactly what causes the problem will give us a clear direction on how to fix it. Where can we buy the replacement parts anyway? I heard their parts are pretty pricey!

    Mine seems to be a fairly common issue; I am seeing all the symptoms described regarding the unit cycling "on" and "off"; currently operates in the "Low" ranges; works sporadically at the "High" ranges and quickly drops off when placed on "Sanitize" setting.

    Mine does the same as well. It sounds like this is a big problem for these units. Alpine air offered to have me ship it for repairs, but this will be very expensive. After the money I paid for this, and the frequency this problem occurs, they should have a solution online!

    I thought that the issue could be solved by getting a new RCI cell (I didn't attempt to do any research online about the unit until now or I probably wouldn't have attempted to replace it). Well I received the new RCI cell yesterday, I installed it with no problems but it immediately began to cycle on and off again. I left the unit on overnight anyway but when I woke up this morning and the unit burned out my brand new RCI cell... I still have the original manual and other than the RCI cell, the ozone plate and the filter there isn't really much along the lines of repairs that you can do on your own. Either way, at this point any further repair is probably best handled by the Ecoquest people. Although I do agree that it is pretty agregious that my $600 unit has failed in just over 3 years. But I'll be damned if I'm going to let this thing sit in a closet to collect dust considering what it costs.

    Unit cycles on and off in Normal mode. With this many people have the same problem, there must be a solution to this problem that is simple. With the cost of returning the unit to Ecoquest, I thought ther must be some one locally( Atlanta Ga) who repairs these units. Mine is just barley out of warranty and in this economy, who can afford a huge repair bill.for an optional piece of expensive equipment? I have replaced the RCI unit and it worked perfect until now.     My Freshair by Econoquest air purifiers (YES, I have two) are both operating intermittantly ...cycling on and off repeatedly in an annoyingly random fashion.



    When they cycle off, the off-portion of the cycle usually lasts for only a few brief seconds before the fan restarts.



    The only difference between the two units performance and symptoms is that one of the two unit's RCI lamp will not illuminate.



    This is obviously a manifestation of a completely different and sepparate unrelated issue.



    Yet, while they are currently both still opperating somewhat rather well, I would like to know what is the cause of the problems associated with their motors being intermittant ...as well as how to correct this ...if it is feasibly possible at all to say openly.



    If, what I am experiencing has been linked to a potential problem with the motor, I would like to know more about any of the known motor's problems as well as its symtoms prior to failure.



    Please advise!



    Additionally, I would also like to know what, if any safety and protection features this unit has which may be at play. In other words, are there any safety sensors or circuits which might be reacting to a motor or a motor-related heat condition?



    In any case ...motor replacement or not ...I would appreciate it if your company would provide me with some guidance in the form of some difinative product historical buletins, and some best advised recomended corrective service action ...short of and aside from having to send the units back for in house service.



    Technical support information on this symtom is obviously more than warranted ...and as such, long overdue.



    What's up with this? It should not be some big ominous big dark secret.



    Otherwise, it stands as an ominous big red flag ...a blemish on the back side of this company and the high priced products they are trying to sale.



    I am an electronics technician and hope to think that a company which is as proud of its products as this units price suggests ...would be as willing to support their products in an open and honest and forthright manner ...as they are willing to charge the + $ 600.00 for their product.



    If there is no transparency in their product support, how could any company ...in good faith ...and with good conscious sell such a product?

    I have the same problem as everybody has described. I have been searching the internet and have found many people with the same problem, but nowhere have I found a solution. Can anybody help me with this. I did notice today after cleaning it that I don't see the purple glow inside the unit like before. I look inside closely and see a faint glow around the plate but not the glow you see other wise. Thanks for any help anybody can provide.

    I tried the solution proposed by gototech, but it didn't work. However, I did notice a difference in how the machine acted after fooling with the circuit board (it would stay running for longer between resets). That had me thinking the problem was with either some dirt on the board or a bad solder connection. A bit of Googling led me to an Ecoquest site for dealers http://www.chippynews.com/Product_Bullet... where they were discussing various unit failures. It seems to be describing this problem. "9% due to no ozone (0.2% of all units). 
    This problem has been attributed to a process issue during Circuit Board manufacturing. The Fresh Air 2 uses SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and the boards are built on an automated manufacturing line. During one day’s manufacturing run, one lead of one component was not being properly soldered, which causes the ozone output circuit to malfunction. This problem was isolated to one day’s production although it did amount to well over 1000 units. Because the component was making contact the failure didn’t show up in the manufacturing QC tests. The majority of failures have shown up later. EcoQuest has put in place safeguards in the circuit board manufacturing process to insure such failures will not happen in the future."

    This suggests we're dealing with a known manufacturing defect that we'll be unable to fix ourselves (unless we have some pretty advanced circuit-board soldering skills). I am very disappointed they are refusing to take responsibility for repairing these units at their expense. They know the problem has existed since they built the units, and it won't show up until some time later (after the warranty expires, they hope). This is the stuff class-action suits are made of. I intend to call them again next week to see if this information changes their tune on the whole $195 repair pricetag.

    When you turn it on the whole front blinks on and off and unit wont run. It tries to but will not. Replaced RCI cell and cleaned.

The problem is dust or moisture on one or more of the circuit boards, in the bottom of the unit. The problem is usually caused by resetting the cleaning reminder without actually cleaning the machine. ;-) It hasn't been difficult for me to solve so far. Remove the filter. Remove the two screws that hold on the plate where the rear switch is located. The wires are long enough that they don't need to be removed from the switch. Use a blow dryer or dry compressed air to blow off the circuit boards. ****Keep your face out of the way!!! Be sure not to get the blow dryer too close or too hot. If you have a Warm setting, use that. Good luck!

sounds like the bearings are going bad on the motor check and make sure the fan blades aren't rubbing anything at higher speeds sometime's they will flex

Fresh Air purifiers are noted for two weak points. The display circuit board and the main circuit board. Call (336) 499-2505 and they will help you work through the problem. They give away information.

Hi,

When that message appears the plate does not make good contact with the two contact points. You can use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to clean the points. After 1-2 years it is also advisable to change the purifier plate. Plates are about $15 and can be purchased at EcoQuest.com

If the plate is dirty (and this can unnoticeable grime-grease) clean the plate with 1 part clear ammonia and 1 part water. An old tooth brush works great.

Fresh air flashes


This looks like a control board error. It needs to come in for repair. be careful not to turn it on, the RCI cell ( the blue light in the back) will stop working if it is switched off and on fast.

Call the company 1-800-989-2299 and get an RMA number. If you are under three years, you are still under warranty.

Away mode broke my fresh air by ecoquest


There could be a couple issues at play here.
1) The power cable might not be plugged in correctly.
2) The fuse might be blown
3) there might be another electronic failure.

1 and 2 are pretty easy to check. Go to www.healthylivingia.com and look for the FreshAir, under the support tab you will find manuals that you can print out.
For the third option you would have to send it in. An authorized repair center needs to take a look at the machine and diagnose the problem. You can call EcoQuest at 1-800-989-2299 to find out where the closest repair center is.
