Nope. You have a vertical problem. Please post the model number from the back of the set and I'll provide you with the part numbers and cost. I can also give you more details on what to change and how.

Thanks,
Dan

The Ic you need is part number 221-992 and is available for around $8 from tritronicsinc.com. If you look on the board for the designation IC2100, that will be the one,.

You will need to know how to solder. Look for the similar part inside the set. It should be attached to a heatsink. Unsolder the pins and remove the old IC. Replace it with the new one. Solder the pins and give 'er a try.

    Keep me posted.

    Dan

Please note that the set should be off and unplugged. Also, there are high voltages floating around inside even when unplugged, so be careful.

Flat screen LCD or Plasma sets (where this question is posted) have no picture tube---a brand and MODEL number might allow me to help you.

When I turn my TV on, I have sound but only a horizontal white/color line across the screen. My TV is an old Zenith 25" floor model.

You can buy a new one for less than 200 bucks. I'd advise you do this. It sounds like you need a new
picture tube

Tv screen is black except for 1 horizontal line of color

The line is there because the vertical deflection unit - the one that spreads that line across the entire screen to form the image - has failed. Replacing it is a job for a professional, or at least an experienced amateur, and the parts will be quite difficult to find for such an old tv .

Screen is black except for thin line in middle of screen

The problem is in the vertical section of the main board. Bad capacitors and maybe the vertical IC. If you are not inclined to be a tech you will have to take it to a shop.. I don't know what they may charge but I normally get $69- $89

16 yr old 25" Zenith..1st colors went yellow/lime now TV is dead

Absolutely not worth repair. You have described a classic symptom of Zenith picture tube failure, and about 99% of the time the main board in the TV is ruined as well. You've gotten good life from the set (manufacturers figure tube life is around 7 years these days), so it's time to replace it.

I have a 1985 Zenith Space Command Color TV. It has developed thin white lines at the top of the viewing screen. The rest of the screen is clear. Is it something small or am I looking at a new picture...

The picture tube is fine.
Those whites lines at the top of the screen are caused by a dry or leaky capacitor(s) nearby the vertical amplifier IC.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Our screen went black no picture only sound

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, and replugging it after 4 hours have passed. If this does not bring the picture back, then you should consider buying a new TV. The costs of a repair ( labor and parts) might exceed the cost of a new TV. Your 10 year old TV has served you well, and has exceeded the average life expectancy of 5 years. May it rest in peace in TV heaven.

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace. You'll need to take your set to service center to have it serviced.

Good Luck!
