Look for cracks in the hinges. It is a big problem with the Gateway 7330GZ.

My webcam for my emachines laptop, (E627) will either open up and close right away, or the screen will be all black. It happens once in awhile, and it will be okay after awhile. It's been like that a lot...

Try reinstalling your webcam driver using the drivers cd that came with your laptop. If you no longer have the cd, you can download the drivers here:

Black Gateway screen Help

I had a problem starting up from the black screen. I went the route of restoring the laptop not know of a possible "common" problem. The following is what I used for my system restore to get my laptop running, perhaps by following the steps to change the bios it might also fix your problem. If anything it doesn't hurt to try at this point.

URL: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/582490-freezing-during-full-system-restore.html

do these steps to disable SpeedStep in the BIOS Setup Utility and then run System Restore again on your computer.
1. Turn on the computer and begin pressing the F2 key in one-second intervals. If you perform this step correctly, you see the BIOS Setup Utility menu. If Windows loads normally, repeat this step.

2. In the BIOS Setup Utility, press the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Advanced menu.

3. On the Advanced menu, change the Intel SpeedStep setting from Enabled to Disabled.

4. Press the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Exit menu.

5. On the Exit menu, select Save Changes and Exit

6. Restart the computer and run System Restore.

7. After completing the restore, download and install the Critical Update for Windows XP (KB885626) package from the Microsoft Web site.

8. Once the KB885626 package is installed, re-enable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS Setup Utility.

Screen is black

The cable is dislodged or you have a failing lcd.If you want to repair this yourself.Check online for a replacement cable and a Lcd too. Then you will have to open the Lcd Bazel to remove or check the cable.Make sure when you attempt this there is no power attached ,battery and Ac Adapter.
Good luck

Laptop Screen Cuts off, but Computer Stays On

Good chance the is a power saver option if it happens while you are not actually using the computer..
The computer will turn off the monitor after a certain period of inactivity to save power.
Go to the Control Panel, select Power Options and adjust it to what you want.

Some possible causes
--Some laptops have a function key that can turn off the screen when you have an external monitor running. Check your documentation to find out.

--The lamp burnt out.

--Cover switch (when you close laptop) is stuck/jammed/loose.

Faint black screen

try the power management again if this does not work the try thebrightness of the montior if nothing ele only other thing is that the video card went from being on to long because it over heated you should buy a laptop holder for it to keep it off the table top and this way it gets more air to keep cool

Gateway laptop

Doesn't sound too good - Could be a bad ram chip (right on the bottom of the laptop under a panel - try removing one or the other chips) or possibly bad motherboard (which is definately not worth it on a several year old gateway machine if you could even find one)

Let us know if the ram does it.
