SOURCE: refrigerator won't get cold

You likely have a defrost cycle failure. The freezer's cooling coils need to be frosty and cold so the air that the fan pulls over them can cool the fridge section. If the defrost cycle fails, the coils freeze up to a block of ice and air flow suffers (fridge is about 55 degrees F). The freezer stays cold only because there's a block of ice in there now... sometimes that cold "sinks" to the bottom and only the food at the bottom stays frozen (and can even freeze food at the bottom of the fridge compartment while the rest is warm). To be sure, you'll need to take the rear interior panel off the freezer back wall and check the coils to see if they are frozen solid. If they are then there's a defrost cycle failure. If they are showing a nice white frosty pattern evenly all over the coils then that's normal and maybe the evap fan (right above the coils) is not blowing air up properly or is not working at all. That fan should run if the compressor is running, etc. the only time it doesn't run is during an actual defrost cycle. Once you find out what condition the coils are in it should be simple to direct you further on the problem.

make sure all your fans are turning. maybe try to remove the knobs and see if you can turn them without the knobs, possibly they could be stripped.

SOURCE: Refrigerator does not get cold - GE side by side

In my GE side-by-side refrigerator (model number GSS20IEMDWW), there is a motor-controlled flapper door between the freezer and fresh food side. Cold air from the freezer side cools the fresh food side when that flapper door is open.

It is located at the top of the fresh food side on the dividing wall between the fresh food side and the freezer. If this is blocked with something (large left-over container, soft drink bottles, etc), it _may_ be enough to prevent sufficient cooling of the fresh food side.

Of course, there may be a more serious problem with the flapper door mechanism or the control unit that signals the flapper door to open/close.

The vegetable and deli drawers may have a small opening (manually controlled with a wheel or a slider of some sort) that connects those drawers to the freezer side, thus explaining how those areas are still functioning as expected.

SOURCE: why does freezer get cold but not refrigerator side?

Check the freezer temp (available in most grocery and home improvement stores). The temp should be between 0-10 degrees F (not just barely below freezing).

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

SOURCE: my kenmore side-by-side refrigerator is

all it does is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and returns through the bottom air vent,so if there's ice there most likely one of the doors was left open, check the freezer for frozen water droplets on packages or on the walls and shelves of the machine,if you don't see that open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor.if the fan is blowing in the freezer from the bottom remove the second draw or bin and put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater, timer or board depending on what model you have,if the fan is blowing and you don't see any problems that i talked about you could have a bad damper,on some machines there's a damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the fridge section,if it's bad it won't open and no cold air can blow in from the freezer,if you think the door was left open, remove anything that's in the way,in the freezer side and the fridge side, shut the machine down or unplug it and with a hair dryer melt out the ice, don't keep the heat in one place for to long, you can melt the vent if it's plastic or styrofoam, after you think it's melted out start the machine and put your hand up in the left hand corner in the fridge section and see if you can feel any cold air blowing in,there could be ice up there too, next time send the model number so i can look up your model,on a side by side you'll find the tag on the right hand side wall in the fridge up near the ceiling or on the ceiling near the light.hope this helps,if you have another fridge you could move the food and just shut the fridge down with the doors open and let it melt out on it's own overnight.good luck

On my Maytag side by side, stainless steel fridge, Model #: MSD2651KES. The freezer works perfectly, but the fridge will not get cold, but if you open the freezer it will start sending cold air to the...

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Refrigerator wont cool but freezer side works perfect

Hello,

A refrigerator not cold enough is a hassle, because you are at risk of spoiling the foods you store in there. Most often, this problem is caused by something easy to fix.
1. Faulty Door GasketsThe door gaskets in a refrigerator ensure a sealed closure every time you shut the door. Torn or loose gaskets on the door of the refrigerator can result in a leak in the cold air. As a result, the refrigerator is warmer. Repetitive and frequent opening and closing of the refrigerator is also a possible cause, because the warm air from outside replaces the cold air in the refrigerator every time you open it.
2. Dirty Condenser CoilsDirty condenser coils can result in improper functioning of the refrigerator. These coils are located on the back or the underside of refrigerators. If you find this to be the cause of the problem, unplug the refrigerator before you attempt any cleaning.
3. Frost-free Feature not WorkingIf the frost-free feature fails, it causes a buildup of frost around the evaporator coils in the freezer. This causes a malfunctioning of the evaporator fan that blows cold air around. The fan can also be damaged if it hits the frost.
4. Faulty or Incorrect Temperature ControlA faulty thermostat can lead to a refrigerator that is not maintaining the desired coldness. Check for this problem and also ensure that the temperature is set to the correct level. Normally, refrigerators are set to a temperature of about 0°C, whereas the freezer sections are around -17°C.
5. Inadequate Air Flow inside RefrigeratorA refrigerator that is loaded with too many food items can fail to maintain an adequate level of coolness across all the items kept in it. The surface items tend to be colder, and the items underneath do not become as cold. A refrigerator that has very few items in it can also fail to function efficiently. Try to ensure that your refrigerator has enough food in it at all times, but is not so loaded that the air flow gets constricted.
6. Vents between Freezer and Refrigerator CloggedThe vents between the freezer and refrigerating section blow cold air from the freezer across to the refrigerator. If these vents are clogged with ice, the air is blocked and the refrigerator does not cool down. If this is the case, you can unplug the refrigerator, wait for the ice to melt and then connect it back to the power supply.
7. Faulty Door SwitchThe door switch is found on the bottom of refrigerator doors. It turns off the light in the refrigerator and resumes cooling action when you close the door. If this switch is not functioning properly, the refrigerator will not be cold and it will also be affected by the heat of the interior light.
8. Refrigerant LeakA refrigerant leak is very unlikely. This problem can cause malfunctioning of your refrigerator. If you suspect this to be the cause, contact a service technician.

Hope this help..........

Top freezer develops ice on left bottom side.

it has to be connected other wise its true that ice will get collected.because the compressor will give its coldness in refrigerator so the cold air of freezer will also get collected in refrigerator side, because there is no ice dispenser connected.connect the icedispenser.
to make it proper.
