Only some letter keys work, all # keys work,Accer 5517 laptop

Kevin, it seems like the keyboard is bad on your laptop. If it has an extended warranty you should take it in for repair.

Did something spill on it recently or did it fall? Sometimes bumps or falls can cause connections to become loose and malfunction.

To gain access to your computer you can try a usb keyboard.

Keyboard problem

Try pressing both the left and right CTRL keys at the same time and

see if that releases CTRL.

Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Accessibility Options /

Keyboard Options.

Turn off CTRL lock if it's on.

If that solves it and to avoid future problems, press "Settings"

Turn off "Press modifier key twice to lock".

Turn on "Turn sticky keys off if 2 keys are pressed at once".

Or turn off "Use shortcut"

Clean your keyboard.

Other letters on my keyboard doesn't work..

Well could be that the keys that don't work might be dirty try using a compressed can of air and spray the keyboard also turn it upside down and shake might be dust clogging it or you might have to reconnect the keyboard so you might have open it up. Worst case the keys probably crapped out

Keyboard on lap top not working

Hello there,

What I would assume in your case is that the jack is not sensing that the keyboard(external) has been unplugged. You can check if the device is working properly in Hardware manager. Assuming you are using XP right-click on My computer->click properties-> hardware manager and check under keyboards. If there's any exclamatory mark next to it then it seems there's some kind of problem with it. Right-click on the device and click on uninstall. Since most of these workstation keyboards are Microsoft PS/2, windows should automatically find and install drivers for it. If it stil doesn't work then its likely to be a hardware failure. Contact HP immediately. Let me know if you need more help.
