TV WON'T TURN ON

Tv just won't turn on- hit the power button and nothing happens. I have the same problem. Model d52w20. Light comes on for 10 seconds then it goes out. That's it. I tried replaceing the three caps on the flyback board and checking for soldering issues as well. Also, I checked the power coming from the power supply and I read 24 vac.
What id wrong with it?
Thanks
Mike

The hv-splitter is bad. This part has high failure so replace the splitter and R721u.

Check the pin output transistor and associated capacitors. Usually the area around the transistor is discolored from excessive heating of the transistor. Also check the other active components in the pin ckts.

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and re-plug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utility bill.

4. If you want to go in for a long term solution, you can easily replace the whole power board. You can find spares and service manual from here:
http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
They also provide free online assistance as you attempt a DIY to help you repair the set.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

If you want to proceed you need the repair and service manual for your TV, so that you can follow the troubleshooting diagrams and find the defective part.

I do not have schematics for your model so I won't be able to follow you from here.

Sure the problem can be the power board, the deflection board or the flyback transformer, but this parts must be tested to locate the fault. And top test them you follow diagrams on service manual.

Posting as an answer just "TV has a problem with flyback transformer" or "change the power board" will be useless.

You can get the service manual here: Service Manual D52W20, D52W20YX1

Once you got it you can come back to us for assistance in testing , locating the problem, and finding replacements.

Thanks

I have a 2003 sony kp51ws500 television and there's a timer on the tv and it won't turn on. A red light blinks 6 times then nothing happens. I unplugged, I hit the reset button, nothing happen

read the instruction manual and see how to operate.
if the timer is for to sleep, the problem will be the IC associates with him, you must see the block diagram and w.diagram. and tracking the signal.
go to www. retrevo.com and download the diagram. God bless you

Projection screen HD tv wont turn on, when you push the power button the light turns on the tv clicks and then go right back off the picture never comes on. This all happens in a matter of seconds.

That sounds exactly like a burnt bulb issue to me which is easily replaceable. But without the exact model of your TV I won't be able to know for sure. If you could comment with the model of your TV I can do some more research for you.
If this helps please give a positive rating.

Unplug from the wall and hit the power button on the tv. The light may come on dim then fade out or you hear a click. This means it has built in surge protection. Plug it back into the wall and you should be good to go if nothing burnt up.
