Re: toshiba laptop problem
Ah , that simple means you have some corrupt files.....we can try a couple of things before getting too dirty:
I would first suggest starting the computer up and tapping the "F8" key...it will take you to a black screen with white lettering. There will be an option near the bottom that reads "Boot Using Last Known Good Configuration" , select that option.....If you are able to get into Windows , we are done! If not proceed to step 2
Ok , when you bought your computer you should have received a Windows XP disc..we are going to need that. Insert the disc into the cd drive and restart the computer. At one point it is going to say something along the lines of "Press Any key To Boot From CD" , when you see that press something on the keyboard.......It will now load up a blue screen.
When that blue screen is done loading , you will see an option to enter the "Recovery Console", select that. This is going to bring you to a screen resembling DOS
Now, type in the following commands with pressing Enter after each line.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

If you have a windows xp CD you could try a repair installation. Start to install windows, and when it checks for previous versions it may give you the option to repair. this will look like a fresh install but your files will still be intact.
If the repair option is not there, you will need to format the HD and start from sctratch
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file."
"<Winnt_root>\System32\Hal.dll missing or corrupt: Please re-install a copy of the above file."
"Cannot find \Windows\System32\hal.dll"
"Cannot find hal.dll"
The "missing or corrupt hal.dll" error displays shortly after the computer is first started. Windows XP has not yet fully loaded when this error message appears.
CauseCauses of the "missing or corrupt hal.dll" error include, naturally, a damaged hal.dll DLL file or a hal.dll file that has been deleted or moved from its intended location.Additional causes may include a damaged or missing boot.ini file or possibly a physically damaged hard drive.
Please let me know you have any further questions or concerns.
It seems to be a hard drive failure.
Your laptop can not see the boot files.
Try to repair windows using recovery disc or to reinstal a fresh copy of windows.
if you are installing a fresh copy and you will get a error message like no hard disk found.. try to check hard disk.
if it was working before that message, then probably the operating system is corrupted.
insert the windows cd when you boot your pc and when the message "Press any key to boot from dvd" appear press enter.
Follow the screens to repair Windows. the sytem files will be restored.
