Also from what ive expereinced if you just pull out the battery like the first post say for like 10 minutes or more you should be fine and it will clear the bios giving you a fresh start at booting up the computer w/o any problems

Actually pulling the battery may not work on certain Toshiba notebook computers.

Some Toshiba notbook computers require a special CD to unlock the password. This CD is available from any qualified Toshiba service technician.

The reason why this was done was to prevent theft from happening. If someone were to steal one of these computers, without the disk, the computer is useless.

Check the Toshiba support center website for details.

There is.

you may open up the unit to expose the motherboard, then look for the BIOS battery (round and flat like the one in the picture below). remove it for at least an hour or two then put everything back in. you should have no BIOS password at this point.

Cant boot up my toshiba lap top. it comes up asking for the BIOS password then shuts down after 3 tries! have tried all the F keys, shift key and removing battery!

the only way to get past the bios password is to open up the case and try to find a jumper on the main board that says bios reset, close that jumper and turn on the computer for one boot, power down and remove the jumper, after that the bios should be reset(bios passwords are usually set as a security measure that is not easy for the average user to bypass such as a windows one that can be removed by formatting the drive and reinstalling windows)

How to reset the boot password in toshiba portege a100 laptop

The BIOS password is removed by the BIOS configuration, you need the BIOS password to get into the BIOS configuration. But if you do not have the BIOS password then you need to construct this dongle device.
TOSHIBA BIOS PASSWORD DONGLE
You can build a dongle that plugs into the printer port.Purchase a 25 pin male D sub connector and solder insulated wires to the various pins as listed below. The pins are numbered on the connector
http://www.tilman.de/sonstiges/toshiba/dongle1.jpg this is a picture of the finished dongle

Wire the pins as follows :-1-5-10, 2-11, 3-17, 4-12, 6-16, 7-13, 8-14, 9-15
Plug the finished dongle in the printer port and power up the laptop. The password will be reset, go into the BIOS configuration to check the BIOS password, you may have to disable the BIOS password.

Toshiba Portege S100 Bios password

Nedacqua,

The only way to obtain the response for the challenge code is to send your unit to an authorized repair facility. I work at the depot repair facility in Lou.Ky. And we have to send a request to Japan or California to get the response code.
