I had the same problem. It was caused by a paper jam that could not be seen from the front or from the flip-up rear access panel..

Toward the back of the top surface of the printer is a panel that flips up easily to reveal the rear interior. If you can see the stuck paper (I couldn't), pull it out. Otherwise, there are two big screws sunk vertically into the rear wall of the printer. Remove the screws, then remove the vertical "panel". ("Panel" doesn't quite describe the part, since it's not flat but has a rather curvy, convoluted surface, but removing it provides greater access to the rear interior.) There, you'll probably find a stuck paper that's causing your problem.

Have a paper jam in my pixma ip4500 and cant see the paper anywher to take it out?

Paper jam I suppose is the commonest of all printer problems as it can occur due to strayed, stuck bits of papers in pathway of paper tray, outlet, roller etc. I would recommend cleaning the paper inlet, outlet, and other possible areas to avoid a paper jam situation.

Follow the given steps to clear paper jam
>Clear any loose paper from the paper tray. This will help you locate the jam. You will find it either in front, near the paper tray, or in the rear.

->To clear a paper jam near the paper tray, grip the paper and pull it firmly but gently from the printer. If you find a stack of papers jammed, grab from the middle of the stack and pull.

->For a rear jam, remove the back of the printer. When you find a free edge on the paper, grip it firmly and pull it out.

->Replace the back cover. Press the "Resume" button or turn off the printer, and then turn it back on. Your settings should reset.

->Try printing another document

It is saying please open the bottom tray when printing but it is open?

open and replace with paper. That mainly happens also when paper is stuck coming from that tray. open the back of the printer and pull paper out!

Why is there a black stripe on the backsid of the paper when I try and print?

you need to clean the bottom plate, heres how:
1 Make sure that the printer is on and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.
2 Press the Open button to open the Paper Output Tray and extend the Output Tray Extension.
3 Fold a single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in half widthwise, and then unfold the paper.
4 Load this and only this sheet of paper in the Rear Tray with the open side to the front.

(A) Load the paper after unfolding it.
5 Open the printer properties dialog box.

6 Click the Maintenance tab, and then Bottom Plate Cleaning.
7 Confirm the displayed message and click Execute.
The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
Check the folded part of the ejected paper. If it is smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning again.
Important --
Even if the Cassette is selected as the paper source, paper will be fed from the Rear Tray.
Do not perform any other operation while the bottom plate is being cleaned.
If the problem is not resolved after performing cleaning twice, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained. Clean them according to instructions. See Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer.

Try to print directly to DVD with a canon pixma

>> It tells me to close the door so it can resume printing on paper normally A4.

It is trying to "ignore" the "bypass" try.

Tell the printer to *ACCEPT* the disk from the "bypass" tray,
rather than from the stack of paper in the A4 tray.

To tell the printer, click the OK button on the printer.

Service error 6A00 lights flashing red when trying to print

Service error 6A00 is AP position error.First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer.Look in the sheet feeder too.If this not help your printer need service.

The ip4500 will not print - says the paper output tray is open!

Just fixed this problem on mine. Need to remove the covers, watch these 2 vids to see how..
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=martop49#p/u/1/iQdHDR6po80

Then on the right side where the on switch is, near the hinge is a little switch with 2 yellow wires, it's probably broke. Pull the 2 wires out and solder or twist them together, then put everything back together. It will now assume the door is always open. Jobs a good'n :)

I have Canon Pixma IP4500, got a Service Error 6B10, How can I fix it without sending it to Canon Centre? because I also got inktank system installed.

If you have disassembled the printer and after putting it back together again, this error pops up, things migt not be as bad as they seem.
Turn the printer on its side and remove the bottom paper tray. You'll see the gap where the tray normally slides into. On both sides you'll see a spring loaded lever. Check that the springs are fitted properly and the levers move smoothly. The small lever is the one that takes care of the paper detection, but if the big one does not move properly, you'll end up with the error too. In my case, the spring got twisted underneath the big lever and that gave rise to the 6b10 error. HTH.

Paper jams

try this
try this, its probably a small part of jammed paper or then theres a problem with the pickup, try cleaning it.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
