No information has been lost from the memory card and it can be read in a card reader. The camera is one month out of warranty!! Can it be anything other than the camera connector?

  • marob Oct 02, 2008

Data are not currupt - unable to format as the camera will not let me. I can view the dat on a card reader. I have tried the memory in another camera and there is no problem. I have tried another memory in this camera - the problem persists.

This comment completed a consensus that it is the camera connector that is at fault. The myriad of comments on the quality of the camera leads me to suggest that no one should buy a Sony Cyber Shot. I wish that I had had this information 14 months ago when I invested £350 in it!!! Thank you.

The problem is that even after such an operation by the local agent , the failure as described appeared again afeter 3 month use, so it was actualy throwing good mney afer bad .it should have been a recall issue as thesont wqs selling junk!

Hi,

First thing is, make sure you have inserted the compatible memory card to your camera....

Next thing you could try is buying a card reader and see if that works. If not, your card is probably done for.

The problem may also be due to the camera itself........
A problem on the cable connector inside the camera...
Do you still have warranty on it?

You might want to return/exchange or send the camera for a repair, otherwise it definitely isn't easy to fix by yourself...

If you are looking to transfer pictures which are already in the camera, use the USB cable for the camera to connect to PC and transfer pictures that way. You can still access the pictures in the camera but just not the memory stick due to the internal problem with the camera..

Hope my info solves your problem.....
Thanx for using fixya........

If you tried replacing the memory card, removing batteries, and cleaning the contacts already, then it means the memory card socket contacts inside the camera are defective.

Usually this is caused by a bad connector or a bad cold joint on the memory card slot wirings, or on the small pcb board inside the camera.

To fix the problem the camera must be taken apart, the wirings to memory card slot tested for continuity, and the lose contact re-soldered.

If the camera is less than one year old, or still under guaranty, the repair will be covered in complete.

Ask a quote for this job at any repair shop, or call the number listed on the owner manual to get service.

Note: the memory card slot is not necessarily defective.

On most camera, the memory card slot is connected to pcb with a small ribbon cable, the cable and the connector on PCB can also cause the problem.

The ribbon cable connector connecting card slot to camera internal pcb is often cause for the problem.

Replacement parts should be purchase only after inspecting and testing the camera.

    Regards.

Hi,

The C 13 01 error just means that the camera can't read the card, or may be the card, the camera, or dirt in between.I suggest you to format your mem card first in your PC and then insert it in the camera.

Don't format if you intend to save the pictures. If you still face the same problem then the issue is with the card slot inside your camera and you will have to get it repaired. There are no other home remedies.

From your query what i understand is your memory card is not workin.

there might be two possibilities here

1 there might be a problem with your memory card.
in order check with it , try inserting your memory card into a card reader or a laptop check whether its getting detected.
If its gets detected , then for sure your memory card is working fine

2 so , now we are left with the memory card slot in your camera that could be the only possible problem.

so you can immidiately contact the place where you bought the camera check whether your camera is in warranty and request for a replacement.

good luck !

Hi,
The camera may display a MEMORY STICK ERROR or C:13:xx message (xx can be any random number) on the LCD screen for the following reasons:
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.

  1. Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick® media several times.
  2. The inserted Memory Stick media is not compatible with the camera. Check your instruction manual for information regarding Memory Stick media compatibility.
  3. The inserted Memory Stick media is not formatted. Format the Memory Stick media using the FORMAT option in the camera menu. WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Formatting will erase all stored data, images, movies, etc., from the Memory Stick media.
  4. The terminals on the Memory Stick media are dirty. Remove the Memory Stick media from the camera and use a soft dry cloth or pencil eraser to clean the contacts. Make sure there are no residual particles on the Memory Stick media before re-inserting it into the camera.
  5. The data on the Memory Stick media or the Memory Stick media itself is damaged. Try using a different Memory Stick media in the camera.

Thanks
Proton

Says to reinsert memory card & card is in camera. Try another card & says memory stick formatting error

i have the same problem..
I have a Sony Cybershot DSC T70 and it keeps saying "Reinsert memory stick" whenever I turn on the camera or slide down the camera lid. Also, whenever I try to view the pictures on my laptop it shows "Please reinsert the memory stick" something along those lines. As I have been researching for the solution, I would have to format the memory card. However, I wouldn't want to lose the pictures as I just took many as from the holiday last week. The only problem is the memory card, I tried using another memory card and it works fine with the camera. There is nothing wrong with the camera.\r\nCan someone please help me how to solve the memory stick problem? It would be great. Ty.

Memory Disc Error

your memory card has a virus! try formatting using camera. make it a habit that whenever you reinsert the memory card in your camera, format it first before taking shots, this will erase everything including virus! try also to remove and reinsert the card several times, this will gonna clean the contact points inside the camera. Try also another memory card.
