Question about Numark CDN95 2-Disc CD Player

CDN-88 I just brought the cd player and on the left side i get the message no disc. I thought it was just cause i use a copied cd but i tried a new cd and it doesn't work neither. The right one works just fine. Can you help me or do i have to return the unit. Luis My email

    Hi Luis I'm Bernie I have owned a cdn-88 for 4 yrs now and it has begun to act in a similar maner, I say similar because mine will play the disk fine when ever it wants i have also noticed wrong beats per minutes but it still plays the song ok and everything seems to work ok, my problem comes back without warning usually when I turn the unit on after 1/2 an hour, 2-3 hours, a day, like I said when ever you least expected., Please let me know what you did to resolve this.I'm at ( ).Thanyou

    I have a CDN88 with a major skipping problem on the Left CD player. I have had it for about 4years now and I am getting ready to send it to Numark for servicing. In the mean time I am using a used CDN95 which is temperamental as hell. It sometimes I have to reinsert CDs twice before it CUEs them and the LEFT player is causing some issues as well.

    I am seriously contemplating getting rid of both and buying me Dennon Table Top players or Pioneers. I can't have this noncense in the middle of a gig.

    I'm having the same problem with my cdn88 the rightside, the rightside tray is giving problem to eject

Another major culprite is the AWM 16pin ribbon that connects the Laser pickup to the main board below. This is constantly moving around with the laser unit whilst the player is being used and simply 'snap' in places after a while causing the 'no disc' error. These can be found on ebay from around 7.50 but from thailand :-s - I've had many of these in now - bottom line is don't buy them - stick to denon & Pioneer (Kam is also very reliable!) - Jon -

I have similar problems....i bought mine from dubai about 4 years ago, replaced the optic lens twice for one side only. Came to toronto after changing lens and started this non-sense again. The only thing that can be done is changing its lens. But then again as Bernie said, it is unexpected, can show "no disc" at any given time, so if it does, keep on ejecting and puting it in several times until it reads it. :)

If this is new, don't waste any time on it. Return it for exchange. It is rare, but sometimes the optics fail. This should be under warranty.

I consistantly get an update message after trying to record disc to disc as little as one track why?

That is best discussed with the Philips support people as there could be a reset procedure. I have never heard of this but you may have caused the unit to enter a different mode by doing an overburn attempt.

The first thing i would suggest you to do is a hard reset by unpluging the the player for 30min and then try again.

If this does not solve your problem then please see if the player tries to read the disc.
Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.

If the problem does not get solved then you have to get it repaired.

Use the cdn22 on weekends for 6 hours a night. at least twice a nightone of the cd players said no disc when i put one in. its not always the same side that does it. the only way to correct it is to power...

Check for contamination on the disks that won't load. Also if you have things like cigarette smoke or "fog" machine that can cause the problem. The precision of the head of the CD players is amazing as the tracks are millionths of an inch apart and it doesn''t take much to cause a problem. If trying to load again the disk finally works, then it may not be registering on the hub quite right. Care in centering MAY help.

Cdn 88 not reading cd

Hi, the main board will issue this (no disc) error code when the lens assembly is malfunctioning. this assembly incorporates the lens head and body and tracking rail. this rail has a motor and gear assembly that has to work in unison in order to track and read properly. the (no disc) error is signaling ga serious malfunction within this assembly. it is not tracking. this will cause errors and the lens will not be able to scan for data to transfer to the main board for track display and info.

numark does all the repairs in house so, you will have to send this unit to numark for the lens assembly replacement. it has failed.

try pulling the housing up with needle nose pliers on the one side. pull hard, and solder quick, this will help get them undone

Left jog wheel on CDN *88 remote controller not working

Hi tmal004,
I don't have a technical manual for this unit, but I have worked on these before. They are fairly easy to dismantle, take care to apply even pressure when removing the jog wheel, use something like a butter knife (2 off) to slide under opposing sides of the wheel and gently prise up. Spare parts for this unit are available directly from Numark, however you can source them from elsewhere. you'll probably need to replace the transducer.

Play button on numark cdn-88 does is messed

The problem is the play button itself. The controller has to be disassembled and the TAC switch needs to be replaced. Would not recommend you do it yourself unless you are good with a soldering iron. It is easy to damage the circuit board with excessive heat or if you are not very gentle removong the existing switch.

Problem with numark cdn 88 disk loads but does not read

my best suggestion, if it won,t read any discs then it need repairing. go through your newmark retailer .they can normally get it fixed by numark. newmark players do go this way unfortunately. if it happens again ,don't buy cheaper models in future. i have had numreous problems with numark axis 9 cd players and in the end i replaced them with a different make.

Wrond Disc

The disc you need to use to record is "PHILIPS CDR MUSIC". That is what it should day on the top of the disc. On the left side of the disc, it should say "DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDABLE". I spent a lot of money buying the wrong discs before finally finding the correct one. So I know your frustration!
