I have a Brother XL 3022. My problem is the tension is wrong but I cant adjust it with the nobbs. The top thread pretty much lies on the material and the bottom thread visably loops over it (it looks like braces). Is there a way to slove this without taking it in to get fixed?

Adjusting machine tension

IS IT A BROTHER, SINGER, ETC? THE BOBBIN TENSION HAS A SMALL SCREW TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN. THE THREAD GOES UNDER THE METAL PLATE THAT APPLIES PRESSURE TO THE THREAD.
1. USUALLY, THREAD WILL TURN COUNTERCLOCKWISE.
2. PUT THREAD UNDER PLATE AND BOB FROM FINGER. IT SHOULD EXTEND ONE INCH WHEN FINISHED.
3. REINSTALL.
4. THE TOP TENSION HAS TO MATCH THE BOBBIN. START ON A SCRAP AT FOUR.
5. IF THE TOP THREAD CAN'T BE SEEN THEN INCREASE PRESSURE. DO THE OPPOSITE IF THE BOTTOM THREAD IS COMING THROUGH THE TOP OF THE FABRIC.

First, make sure the upper thread is threaded correctly. I don't have this model but see if this helps. If the bobbin thread is visible from the right side of fabric, the upper thread is too tight. If the upper thread is visible from the wrong side of the fabric, the tension is too loose. Turn the thread tension dial to the right to tighten and left to loosen upper thread. Good luck. How to thread the bobbin on a brother vx-810

The sewing on the bottom is loose because you don't have enough tension on the TOP thread. First, make absolutely sure you are threading the machine correctly. Next, while using 2 different colours of thread, tighten the top tension dial one number at a time and then checking the stitching, continue tightening the top tension until the sewing is even on the top and bottom of your cloth.

The stitches on my brother 3125 sewing machines are loose. On the top and bottom. Ive tried to redo my stitching and nothing has worked . Please help !!!

Make sure presser foot UP position. Rethread making sure thread is taut so it can locate tension slots. Rethread needle making sure its up in the needle bar shaft--flat side BACK--thread goes through needle eye front to back. Tension: 4 Jimmy

I have a Brother Disney SE-2700 and the bottom threads knott up causing me to not be able to sew. Please help.

It sounds like it has not been correctly threaded or the tension is too tight. Check the tension discs for bits of thread that may have broken off and be causing a blockage.
Re-thread the top threads making sure the pressure foot is up before passing the thread through the tension discs!
Then check the bobbin is running correctly by pulling on the tail of the thread. The bobbin should rotate clockwise. Put the bobbin case in and make sure it is seated correctly.

If all this fails try replacing the needle. A blunt needle can cause all sorts of weird problems

I have a brother vx-1125 and the top stich is fine but the bottom one is a mess, whats the best setting to have it on for a normal straight stitch?thanks

If the bottom stitching is a mess it usually means that the TOP thread is not threaded correctly. What happens most of the time is that the thread is not snug in the tension discs. First re-thread your machine with the presser foot UP and when you get to the tension discs (sticking up at the back of the machine) hold your thread like you're flossing and go back and forth in the disc to make sure you have tension on it. You should hear a little click when it's in there. (Test it...floss it on and pull it off so you can hear the click.) If the thread isn't between these discs your bobbin thread will be loopy. Finish threading the machine and you should have no problem now. Also, make sure your upper tension is set at 4 and your stitch LENGTH (on the right front) should be 2.5 or 3 for a normal stitch. Hope this helps. Let me know! Thanks for using FixYa

I'm having troubles with my brother sewing machine

Your tension is loose on top. Adjust your tension dial up a little at a time until you have a desirable stitch. Before adjusting the tension, you may want to look into the tension and see if there are any threads caught between the disc. If so remove them. Another common problem is that your machine is not threaded properly, make sure the pressure foot is in the up position when threading and if needed consult your manual for the proper threading diagram.

Treading the machine

all machines thread the same. TTN tension, take up, needle.
Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever, then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side, the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT.
