Look on the back of the television and the DVD player, there should be a SCART socket and/or red, white and yellow AV sockets, either use a SCART lead and connect it to the SCART on the DVD player and the TV.Or use an AV lead with 3 auxiliary shape connectors and match the colour of each connector with the female sockets on both the TV and the DVD player instead of using the other component connections.
Generally, the main causes of the problem are included in the following aspects.
1. The incorrect TV and DVD broadcast formats.
2. Incorrect cabling.
3. The backlight of the TV screen is abnormal or broken.
4. Objective factors, like whether and connection signal.

Why is My DVD Playing in Black and White
SOURCE: Black & White picture
Yeah, PAL vs. SECAM, second thing I thought of. Check that.
Are you using the S-video output? S-video passes the luma (brightness) and sync on one pin, chromiance (color) on another, so a bad cable or bent pin will cause similar symptoms, but in this case, the picture will be nice and stable, just monochrome.
If using component video out, you probably have some of the cables mixed up.

How can I hook my Magnavox MWD7006 player up to a entertainment system. So far sound is playing in Stereo (3 speaker) format instead of (six speaker) format or Db5.1. Any ideas? I used a s-video cable to connect.

The component connection should have one red, one green, and one blue connector that will connect to the back of your player and the back of your television. Then there should also be another red and a white connector that should run from the AUDIO L & R OUT of your player to the AUDIO L & R IN beside the Component IN connections on your TV. The yellow cord would normally be running from the VIDEO OUT on the back of your player to one of the VIDEO IN connections of your TV.
