I found that WasherFresh worked better then the Affresh.  What I really did not like is you cannot touch the Affresh tablets, WasherFresh is contained in a pouch and is not harmful to touch, because of the disolving pouch containing the chemicals.  Also after reading the package the chemicals are not harmful to the environment.
WasherFresh removed the odor causing buildup and I now use it monthly as a preventive maintenance.

Affresh™ Washer Cleaner stops HE washer odor and leaves your front load washing machine clean and fresh. This is the innovative solution for HE Washer Smells. With all of the water and energy savings that HE washers provide, they still require special care. After normal use, mold, mildew, and odor-causing residue may form in hard-to-reach areas of HE washers. Many times people will notice that their basement or laundry room has become stinky. Often this is caused by their washing machine developing a musty smell that comes from the mildew in their washer sump.
Affresh™ Washer Cleaner will get your washing machine clean, so you can enjoy a fresh smell in your laundry area or cellar. Oxygenated cleaning action lifts away the Odor and the Residue that causes it in your HE Washing Machine. Affresh™ Washer Cleaner is the only product proven to penetrate, dissolve, and remove odor-causing residue from your HE washer. It doesn't cover up the odor - it's oxygenating action lifts the residue from the surfaces in your washer, allowing it to be rinsed away.

Affresh™ Washer Cleaner removes and prevents odor-causing residue that can occur in all brands of HE washers. While bleach only kills odor-causing bacteria, leaving behind the detergent residue; Affresh™ Washer Cleaner uses surfactant chemistry to remove the root problem. Affresh™ Washer Cleaner is aspecially formulated, slow-dissolving, foaming tablet that gets under residue, breaks it up, and washes it away leaving the washer smelling fresh and clean.
Using Affresh™ Washer Cleaner is fast and simple. Simply add the tablet to your washer tub and run a Normal Cycle (hot option) or Clean Washer Cycle once a month. This routine maintenance will keep the inside of your washer sparkling, clean, and fresh smelling. Affresh™ Washer Cleaner is environmentally friendly, safe on septic tanks, and safe for all washer components. Package includes three tablets.

Why does my Washer agitate but it won't fill? This can be caused by a water level pressure switch failing. You can reset the switch and try it again. If that doesn't work, you can put the washer in a spin cycle for a few minutes and then try to fill it again.

What could be causing is a smell coming out from the back of the washing machine?

Have you run a "Clean Up" cycle - it is important to do this to ensure your clothes are clean and the machine works at it's peak. If you use it heavily, you should do this every three or four months. You can find this cycle under "Lifestyle" and you should put 1 cup of oxyaction soaker in at the beginning of the cycle and it needs hot water to work. It takes about 3 hours, but is well worth the time.

There is no other real reason for a smell, unless something has died - in which case you should move the machine and remove any deceased animal.

Top load washer smells like rotten eggs when water is draining into tub

As someone who has had a deep well drilled and found water, but water contaminated with iron and sulfur, I can tell you first hand about the rotten egg smell. The water softener will remove the iron that can turn clothes orange, but doesn't do anything to remove the rotten egg odor. You will need a charcoal (carbon) water filter to eliminate the sulfur smell.

The clothes even after sitting in the washer a short time seem to sometimes have a sour smell.

Double check your drain line, make sure its not clogged and also that the drain water isnt backing up back into your washing machine. If thats not the case then you may want to use some bleach or pirchase a product called affresh to sanitize your machine. Also you must leave the lide open after use to let the machine air out.

Our Maytag washer emit a rotten egg smell and the wet clothes also come out with this smell. What is causing this and how do we fix this issue?

Sounds like a sulfur-eating bacteria, you're smelling hydrogen sulfide. Are you on city water or do you have a well? Sulfur-eating bacteria can live in a well (as can iron-eating bacteria) and it might find a happy home in a washing machine too.

Since they live in an acidic environment (the hydrogen sulfide, dissolved in water, makes an acid) I would try a caustic first- bleach would be a good first bet.

If you have a well and the bacteria came from it then it'll come back. Consult with a local well drilling operation, they can tell you if you have bacteria in your well and how to deal with it in a locally acceptable fashion.

Our clothes are coming out of the washer with a rotten smell. I have tried Tied Washing Machine cleaner and the vinegar/soda mix...but no change.

Try running a cycle, at highest level, with hot water. When the tub is about ready to drain, connect the drain hose to a water hose, and let it drain through the water hose to outside. See if the water has a smell / any "floaties" that may indicate a mold / mildew growing inside the agitator. You can try to over fill (fill to highest level, then add water using a bucket) with water and add a large amount of bleach. Let it sit overnight, and run a few cycles to rinse out the bleach residue

Have you noticed a similar smell from the hot water when taking a shower / doing dishes / washing hands? You could have bacteria growing in your water heater. Shocking it (with granulized bleach - see owners manual) will help clear this up. If you are on a well, you may also be getting sulfur or Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) into your well water as well.

My dryer smells like sulfur . The clothes smell

Run a couple of hot washes with no clothes in the machine

Before you do dissolve some Soda Crystals in 2 liters of hot water and put them into the machine by hand.

Your machine smells because new powders wash at lower settings and do not contain bleaches and soda to kill off the grease which is washed off the clothes

Kenmore front load HE washer odor

How old is your machine? Mine is 5 years old, and I just started to get a "sewage" smell in my laundry room this weekend. I disconnected the water return to the sewer line and discovered lots of gunk in the hose, and the connector to the machine was completely dark green. I'm going to replace the hose, and trying to figure out if there is some sort of filter.

We only use He detergents too, so I guess this is something that just happens over time.

Find a well water person in your area that can help you with the sulfur problem.

They may recommend a filter system, or they may suggest a air rader for your well, what this does is it mixes air with the water before your system gets its and the sulfur fouls out and drops out in your well.

Get a guarantee and give it some time, with a money back guarantee, or a couple year warranty.

THey may not be able to solve your problem, a Friend had to dig a new well deeper.
