Stamina/Speed switch not working on VGN-SZ484N

My stamina/speed switch stopped working recently. The green light indicator is on stamina mode, while the switch is set on the speed mode. I tried adjusting options in the Vaio Power Managment tool, but it did not switch to speed mode. I've been stuck with the stamina mode for a while, and i can't play some video games because stamina mode uses intel graphics, whilst the speed mode uses nvidia Geforce 7400 Go which is better. Would appreciate your help.

I have exactly the same problem with my VAIO VGN-SZ460N.

  • Anonymous Apr 11, 2009

Same thing on VGN-SZ430n, expect it's just the backlight that fails when I switch to speed mode.

It depends on the game. And how detailed the game is. like basket ball vrs. mario you know. differen't graphics differen't speeds. Some time you can adjust the speed on the game which will in turn force the speed of the graphics card.

the best ways of making a Graphic card is
1-updating it's drivers and directx weekly.

Hi, Webpage images are blurred.

You may have inadvertantly zoomed in on your browser page using the key combination of Ctrl + (plus). If using IE, try going under View->Zoom or type Ctrl - (minus) to return the screen back to 100%.

Go to nvidia and download the latest driver then download ntune which is software that monitors the gpu temp and allows you to adjust the clock speed. if the temp is going above 80 degrees while gaming lower the GPU clock speed until it stays below. You also get some nice little adjustments you can make to the fan on the card etc. You should be able to solve your problem with ntune

Is the card overclocked? What you described are called Artifacts and is usually due to the clock speed or memory speed is more then the card can handle stability.

Whats the wattage on you PSU?

Does you case have good cooling?

I have the same card and many of the same issues.  I got an RMA number and had to contact ATI after "Clear Business Days" to get a status report.  Having finally gotten a response, I find out that it will be 10 to 12 WEEKS before the card comes back.
Knowing what I know now, I would not purchase this card again.

Getting the most from asus en6200tc256/td/64m/a video card

first of all are you looking for speed, or quality?

For Speed I would suggest basic game settings like lowering the resolution, decreasing the color depth to 16bit if that option is available, turning down shadow quality or turning shadows off, turning down or off anisotropic and antialiasing, finally turning down water detail if that option is available. All of those options would usually have the biggest impact on the speed.

For quality basically getting the game playable without using the suggestions from above I would go to and download the nTune utility and while you are there I would suggest making sure you have the most recent drivers. Use the nTune utility to adjust the clock speed of your video card. I only suggest this if you know what you are doing as increasing the clock on the video card will void the warranty.

Beyond what I recommended above the only thing that I can say is that the video card that you have may not be fast enough for some games.
