Question about Pentax Optio S5z Digital Camera

1 Answer

Battery failure I charge my Pentax Optio S5z battery on the charger then put it in the camera when it is fully charged (green light comes on on the charger) but the camera won't work ie. battery is dead, as i put it back in the charger and the light comes up red like it is flat again. Sometimes I just leave it in the camera and it seems to work after a few days, then may last for a day or sometimes for ages. I'm guessing the battery is stuffed but I want to check before I buy a new one. Please email me at rachelofficer32@yahoo.com.au with your solution. Thanks!!

The only solution for that is to buy a new battery. I had the same problem with my canon 900Ti (NB5 battery), died after less than a year. It probably exceeded it's battery cycle life... have a nice day!

My Pentax Optio WP beeps 3 times, goes dim and turns off. The battery is charged up fully. Any suggestions?

Hi Jesslionbery,

Please try removing the memory card that has been installed in it , if any.

When you remove the memory card make sure it starts.

If the above trick does not work , try using NIMH battery instead of the ones that you have in and check if it works.

Also if you update the firmware of the camera , it may solve your problem, please find this link for more information , as the crashing problem has been resolved for many because of a firmware update.

Hope this helps ..:)

Pentax w30 will not turn on. I think the battery may be shorted the light on the charger now blinks instead of staying lit while charging and turning off when fully charged?

The flashing light indicates either a charger problem or batteries that are beyond charging. If you have a voltmeter you can check the output of the charger and the voltage of the batteries, but chances are that you just need to replace the batteries -- especially if they're more than a year old.

When the camera is turned on the lens will not open

Will the screen also not turn on? If so, it may be that you are running out of battery life. Turn it off. Charge the batteries. Then try turning it on again.

You can charge the battery using the USB cable. The camera has a built-in recgargeable Li-ion battery, but the AC charger is "optional" ... go figure...
Nice camera, btw...

I'm not aware of any indicator light on the camera. The optional external charger has a red lighht that turns amber, then green.
