If the BIOS cannot detect any USB ports then this laptop cannot have an USB port as a boot device, because the firmware BIOS does not support this. The USB port is useable only when Windows is up and running when the USB driver is operating.
Do they not work on any device? Have you tried using a device that they used to detect in the past? Maybe the device you are using is too advanced for the old D600. For example, I would imagine it would have a hard time detecting a 1TB external hard drive.
If it will not detect a device that used to work in the past I would go into the BIOS or System Setup and make sure the USB is enabled. When you turn the laptop on just watch the screen and it will tell you which key to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. I think it is the F2 key for the D600.
your laptop usb port is 1.0 cam is ready for 2.0 usb port if your laptop has 2.0 usb port the cam is not detecting it.try removing all usb ports in device maneger reboot sytem will autodetect and reload usb drivers should take care of problem if laptop has 2.0 ports
if the usb detects other devices and not your drive, the drive itself may be faulty. If you plug in other devices in the usb and it detects them the usb drive or its connector is most likely bad.If it won't detect any devices the port is bad and drivers won't help.Possibly a motherboard issue.
Check it on another computer. if it still doesnt work then your backup
is gone. if it does work maybe you should take it in. also try other
accessories in that same port. if other stuff doesnt work then you'll
probably need to fix the port. also check the drive on any USB ports in the back of you
I had a client with this same issue. However, her issue was that the top left USB port would only accept flash drives. Your external harddrive is probably not getting enough power from your USB port. Try using two USB ports (you can get a connector for this) to power up the external harddrive.
I have the same problem with the USB's not working. Suppliers say Motherboard problem. solved it by purchasing a PCMCIA to USB port. at least i now have 2 USB ports. you could probably get one with 3 ports.
