Zoom will not retract

Dear Grammie,

You have either experienced a lens error or your zoom dial is broken (both usually caused by some sort of impact damage, but which can be spontaneously occuring).

Look for an error message on your camera's LCD screen such as "E18," or "lens error restart camera." If you do not see a lens error but simply cannot retract your zom lens (go into wide angle mode) via the zoom lever then it simply maybe a broken command dial. Either way, however, you will need to have the camera serviced in all likelihood. Call tech support at 1-800-828-4040 M-F from 8 am to 12 midnight EST and Saturdays until 8 pm EST. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Zoom Lens doesn't Zoom

Check you haven't accidentally got the camera into some fixed-zoom mode ("Super-Macro" is a favourite for this on Olympus cameras).

Zoom Error

We had this problem for about 2 weeks, we discovered that having the camera auto retracted after the "ZOOM ERROR" message, giving the camera couples of light slaps (slap the camera's LCD side and aim the camera down), this fixed the camera right away

Olympus Camedia C5050 Zoom

The unusual beeps usually occur when the lens cannot be extended or retracted, often due to dirt in the gearing or the lens cap being left on.
Try using canned air to blow around the outside of the extension cylinder, and, putting a fresh set of batteries in the camera (it probably got stuck on since it couldn't fully retract the lens and didn't complete the shutdown).
If that doesn't work, try taking it to a camera store with repair technicians and having them take apart and clean the lens extension/retraction mechanism.

Olympus C-3000 Zoom telescoping lens problem

The small gears that link the viewfinder and lens may be out of sync. If you are a technical person, you can remove the frontcover, first taking off the topcover, (one screw is hidden under the mode dial). Power up the camera and remove the batteries when the lens is fully extended. BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE CAPACITOR! Gently lift the viewfinder and move the viewfinder gear one tooth. It will probably only move one way. Put the batteries back in and try the lens. If this does not solve the problem, you may need to replace the lens or viewfinder.
