Problem with DELL 2408WFP

Hi
I am using the DELL 2408WFP as an HDMI based output device for my WINCE 5.0 based board. it just acts as a TV and connected through the HDMI. I am playing an audio file continuous. But each time I start playing the audio file i get some noise from the monitor speakers. It get resolved when I switch on and off the monitor once. again it comes when the audio file is started from the beginning. But I am not getting this problem with other TVs(like SAMSUNG and SONY) which continously play the audio file with no noise. what might be the problem with the DELL 2408WFP here. Please help me out to resolve this issue.

The audio out from the monitor when connected to the speaker has a lot of hissing and popping sounds with the music I play.  If I connect the audio to the back of the PC it's very clear.  I am using HDMI connection to the DELL 2408WFP monitor.

I have the same problem, but it is confined to the HDMI sound. The sound output comes out of the monitor output jack and then goes to the Dell bar hanging speaker.

The problem came on suddenly after the sound had been working fine for about two months.

The sound is a high pitched whine and effectively mutes the tv sound so that the words are barely heard above the whine.

At first I thought it was a loose ground or connection, but could not find any problem with the cable connections.

Since I could not resolve the problem, I was forced to deal with it by having the cable box analog output jacks go to my clock radio speaker. This is not a very good solution since it requires manually setting the clock radio input to the cd input, and then selecting the audio input from the DVD player to the TV output.

Because of very limited viability of my temporary solution, I would be interested if anyone knows what the problem is, although I suspect it is a audio chip problem in the monitor.

I have similar problem.  I'm using the HDMI connection from my PC to the monitor and when I connect my audio out from the monitor I get hissing and popping sounds along with the audio.  It sounds pathetic, I also hear the music and audio along with the hissing and popping.
If I connect the audio to the back of the PC the sound is crystal Clear.  I am using Vista 64 bit with NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card.  Trying  to Google to see if others are are seeing the same problem.  I just got my monitor on Oct 6.

Chris, what happens when you plug the hdmi connector into the TV and your adapter, while your computer is running and connected to the adapter?
Are there drivers required for the adapter?

As an alternative, you could install a video board in your Dell that includes an HDMI output. I have a laptop with one, and connect it to my TV often; works fine.

Most of the time it will involve replacing the entire board that connects to the HDMI and outputs associated with it--not a cheap fix and good luck finding any board for this brand set.

When i connected hdmi cable from dell lap to panasonic viera lcd tv only picture is comming no sound comming why plz advice me.

Check your graphics card control panel in the TV out setting and look for a setting to allow sound to be passed trough the HDMI cable.
You could also try changing your default sound output. 1. Right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar 2. Select 'Playback Devices' 3. In the playback tab it will show you devices that are capable of putting out sound from your laptop 4. Look for a device that will output sound from the HDMI port. 5. Click on the device then click the 'set Default' button. Sound should then be going trough the HDMI cable to your TV.

Hello,

Adjust the system's audio output settings. These settings are mainly used when the system is connected to audio devices that support digital audio output, such as AV amplifiers (receivers) for home entertainment systems.
1.
Confirm the formats supported by your audio device.
Settings vary depending on supported formats. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the audio device.
2.
Select in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) under in_setting.gif (Settings) in the home menu.
3.
Select [Audio Output Settings].
4.
Select the input connector on the audio device. Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use.

Select audio output formats.
Select all output formats that are supported by the audio device in use. If [Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI] is selected in step 4, the screen for selecting audio output formats will not be displayed. If [HDMI] is selected, you can also select to automatically set the audio output format. (In this case, the HDMI device must be turned on.)

Check your settings.
You can go back to the previous screen and revise the settings by pressing the in_left_key.gif button.

Save your settings.
The audio output settings are saved on the system.
Hints
  • [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio is set to be output from all output connectors by default. If you change the audio output settings, audio will be output only from the connectors that were set.
  • If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI], or select in_setting.gif (Settings) > in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) > [Audio Multi-Output] and set the option to [On].
  • If you select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] in step 5, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices.
  • When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings].
  • If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.

Hope it helped.

Can i hook up a hdmi cable from computer to dvd recorder and record stuff from computer to dvd recorder

Hi,
The HDMI port on your pc is an output device. That said, if your dvd recorder has an HDMI input or another input device then you can record from your pc to your dvd recorder. To do this, you will need the HDMI to A/V or anyother cable that your dvd recorder accepts as an input device. Another roundabout method would be to connect your computer to the TV which is probably already connected to your DVR for recording and record via that.
If you send your DVD recorder's model no. i can help you with exact instructions

Sony Viao HDMI to Panasonic Plasma TV HDMI Input handshake

Try all of your HDMI inputs, one may be rated at the correct voltage to be able to display the video. The offical part that Panasonic was giving for this was PDPHDMIKIT, its basically a HDMI extender that regulates the voltage. The part is still available online, try partstore.com or andrews-electronics.

Input 5 not playing audio via HDMI or stereo

HDMI can be problematic. Follow these steps in order for the best success with HDMI.

1) With all devices off, turn the TV/monitor on first and wait for it to come on.

2) Select the HDMI input.

3) Turn on the next HDMI device (stereo amp if it comes before the video device, or the video device itself and let it come on.

4) Play the video.

Some video devices may need the audio output to be set to PCM or 48k/96k datastream to work correctly.

If this doesn't help, you may have a compatibility issue with your HDMI device. Usually it is the fault of the player/video receiver and rarely the display/TV. All the TV/monitor does is query the source device as to what type it is and the resolutions it's supports.
