The key to these type of problems is to view it as a game of cracking a secret code. It is important to think through the problem word-by-word to translate that word into its symbol (or number). Start left to right and replace words with numbers or words:

Nine more than a number would become:

Nine more than a number

9 + x

Words such as "more than," Added to," "plus," etc. are a plus sign

Words such as "decreased by," minus," "less," (note this is not "less than") mean a subtraction sign.

Words such as divided by and times are replaced by a division sign and a multiplication sign respectively.

They key here, again, as is NOT commonly taught in our schools today is that these are NOT magic formulas. Math was a means to try to show, on paper, real-life problems. On paper they were easier to solve.

A problem such as "9 more than a number" would the real life euivalent to saying something such as you already spent some money ( "a number" of dollars) and then spent 9 more dollars. This is not a very practical situation as you normally know how much you did spend to begin with.

However, this statement WOULD be useful for saying something like:
1. Let' say I spent 1 doallar and then 9 - how much did I spend?
2. Lets say I spent 2 dollars them 9 - how much did I spend...
etc.

Again, this may not seem too practical, but omputers HAVE to be fed statements such as this when they calculate stuff for us.

Also, the main idea in algebra is NOT to make you sit in a classroom and b bored to tears with a bunch of formulas. It is to have your mind practice through the ways of thinking that an UNDERSTANDING of math problems bring. We will never have someone walk up to us in the mall and ask what is "9 + x if x is 10?" But we will have to do think such things as "If I spend 9 more dollars, how much will I Spend total?" Here your mind is using the concept of 9+x.

Don't really know what you are looking for here, but I will give it a shot;)

comes after 8

Comes before 10

Square root is 3

Factors are 1,3, and 9

Squared is 81

9 is also an interesting number because to see if 9 goes into a number evenly, you just add up the digits of the number and see if 9 goes into that number, 9 will go into the number evenly.

For example, to see if 7871847097401 is divisible by 9, let's add up the digits.

7+8+7+1+8+4+7+0+9+7+4+0+1=63 9 goes into 63 evenly, so 0 goes into 7871847097401 evenly. When you add up the digits and get 63, you can also add 6+3 to get 9 and 9 will go into 9 evenly, so 9 goes into 7871847097401 evenly.(p.s. The same process works for the number 3).

Good luck.

I'm not going to do your homework for you, but I'll explain how it's done in general. When you speak a number, you generally say the integer part in the normal manner, say, "point," and then speak the digits of the decimal portion (or, if the decimal portion is that of an irrational number or endless repeat, speak it to the desired number of decimal places). You write the number in words in the same way. For example, 99.995 is "Ninety-nine point nine nine five."

If you have no internet connection, test your modem with another computer. If works, might be your LAN port. You can buy a PC Experess LAN and insert it in expansions slot. It should override onboard LAN. In any case, check your BIOS
