Question about HP PC Desktops

2 Answers

Everytime i try to download a large file, and by that i mean like over 20-30 mb, my wi-fi connection fails( i get the message "limited connectivity") and then i can't even browse the web anymore. my laptop just won't connect to any network. UNLESS i restart or put the computer to "sleep" or "hibernate" and restart etc. this is horrible and hopeless. it happens when watching video, when chatting, when downloading stuff. i mean this computer is useless to me and i spent SO MUCH on it. this is a new laptop - 64 bit processor. i don't know if it has anything to do with that. i have tried it everywhere - at restaurants, other people's homes, etc and its the same everywhere. about 2 weeks ago, i took my laptop to this computer geek who said he would try and see if it worked by switching off vista's unique system of downloading in small packets or something like that and ran a system command to that effect. it hasn't made ANY difference. please please do help.

I'm wondering if this is an issue with size or time. Try moving the mouse every minute or so and see if it helps. If it does I think I know the cause of your problem.

:) power settings was what I was having him check by keeping the mouse in motion.

Next test -
Press F8 as you boot the computer and go into Safe Mode with Networking.
If the problem goes away here it means that some piece of software that normally runs on your system is causing the problem.

How do I get the Wi-Fi signal on my pc?

I'm wondering if this is an issue with DHCP with your router.

Do you have any additional security settings enabled? MAC filtering? What kind of router do you have?

Hope this helps. Feel free to respond to this message and I'll try my best to help some more.

I have an older emachine desktop without wi-fi

You can buy a WIFI card that installs into the PCI slots on your MB, or you can buy WIFI USB cards that are equally as powerful. Just be sure to buy the correct WIFI Product that is suitable with the WIFI signal you are trying to get on, i.e. 802.11 B, G, and N. Hope this helps. I installed a TP-Link WIFI PCI card in my 8 year old Acer Aspire T650 and it works great. Good luck.

Is it possible to get a wireless connection to the vaio PCV-RX221

Hi,
Vaio PCV-RX221 does not have Wi-Fi capabilities. If you wish to connect it to Wi-fi, you can use a USB Wi-fi LAN Card, which can be connected to any USB port of the PC and can be used to recieve wi-fi signals/ data. Note that PCI Wi-fi LAN Cards are also available, which are internal and added to PCI Port of the PC.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Trying to connect to my home wi-fi using laptop with installed linksys wpc54g wireless adapter but the problem is when i use linksys utility it starts, but can't find wifi lans i see frozen word searching...

limited or no connectivity means your wlan not communicating with the router, check if you turn on the wlan switch on your laptop or try to install updated driver for you wlan

if thats a external wireless lan card try to unplug and plug it back.

How do i connect to mcdonolds free wifi? what do i need?

To access the Wi-Fi services in a restaurant, you need a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as a laptop or PDA. If you are unsure whether your laptop or PDA is Wi-Fi enabled, click here to determine what hardware is required.

Our local service providers provide high-quality Wi-Fi service through several convenient connection options: on-line credit card payment, subscriptions, prepaid cards, or (sometimes) promotional coupons. If you have questions or need technical help, the Wi-Fi provider's customer support number should be handy in the restaurant.

Please note that currently there are no roaming capabilities between different countries, neither for customers nor McDonald's employees. You will have to connect separately with the respective Wi-Fi service provider.

Enjoy surfing and working in your local McDonald's!

As soon as i went from a 'B' to a 'G' router, my internet has slowed dow , worse than dial-up

The Belkin Wireless G Router lets users share files and a broadband Internet connection among their computers-without using networking cables. It features 802.11g technology that makes accessing files and networked peripherals-such as hard drives, printers, CD-ROMs, and DVDs-easier than ever. 802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the current Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. An integrated, 4-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch also allows you to connect wired computers to the network. 802.11g technology is the easiest wireless network to implement. The Router uses the wireless 802.11g 2.4GHz standard to offer you 400 feet of wireless coverage. 802.11g technology is backward compatible with the 802.11b Wi-Fi networking standard, so it allows you to implement faster wireless technologies in combination with existing 802.11b Wi-Fi networks.

so if use "g" type router the speed cannot be slow there may be some other problem....that let the internet speed down....check that......
