Good Evening MIKEPRATT56:

Hope that you are wellJ
Unfortunately, it is impossible to restore your system back to factory settings without a CD. This link will assist you in ordering a cd.

Because, you did not provide a lot of information, I can't tell if you crash or if you are just encountering a lot of problems.
You may well wish to try a System Restore. (You did not list your Operating System.)

Hit the start key, select All Programs, click on Accessories, select System Tools and then select System Restore. Follow instructions and try to create a system restore date that will take you back to where you want to go. This is the only form or time-travel that I know.

Otherwise, you will need to order a disk.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

And, remember, always include the type of Operating System and the type of computer you own, when you submit your questions. It simply makes for much faster solutions.

Have a wonderful evening.

I have a Ntdetect Failed promt on toshiba p15-s479 laptop

LOL, sounds like you've got it trying to reboot from a Network or Lan first. Go back into the Bios and change the boot sequence to make the CD Drive your first boot option and the Hard Drive your second boot option.

You will want to boot from the CD to get the operating system installed. After it is installed be sure to remove the cd otherwise it will try to boot from it. Best option would be to go back into the bios and make the hard drive your first boot option after you get everything loaded.

You might be able to direct the system to boot from the cd as soon as you press the power button. Most systems will post an option to hit a certain key to get into the Bios or System Setup and a key to change the Boot order just for this one time.

Does this laptop have a built in partition to reset to factory settings?

Hello cmtcpt, to "reset the Computer back to "Factory Settings; follow these instructions to "Restore the Computer" back to the Factory Settings or Out of Box," as if you just bought it. 1. The first thing you want to do is; "Backup any important "Data" that you may have on the Computer. Have CDs or DVDs to do so. 2. Next, is to "Restart the computer; once the Computer begins to "Boot Up!" 3. "Do the following; this may take some timing." You will notice that there will be wording, a prompt, at the bottom of the "Screen" Press F2, and Press F12, it may differ on your Computer, once you see this on the screen, quickly press, tap the [DEL] key, located at the top [Right] next to the Scroll Lock, and END keys." 4. "Remember as I said before it may take some timing. You will know if you done it correctly, when you see the {Windows Boot Manager} Heading at the bottom of the on the screen, it will read "Recovery Environment." Note: The wording may differ depending on the Type and Model Computer you have, "just keep in mind that you want to "Restore the Computer back to Factory Settings". 5. Now, there will be a long list of "Options" to choose from, select the option that best describes; "Repair My Computer." In the next [Systems Recovery] windows, you will have to "Enter" (Location, Password...), follow the instructions. 6. Next, choose the box that best describes, the Recovery Wizard: "This will have a notice that read: Restores My "System back to Factory Settings, or Out of Box! Note: There will be all types of "Warnings!" Read carefully before continuing. Attention: "Once the Recovery begins. Do Not Touch the Computer, for any reason at all!" The whole recovery process can take up to (4 Hours), the Computer will "SHUTDOWN and RESTART several times; several! So until you see the LOGIN" screen! Do Not Touch the Computer. "I hope this information is helpful? Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9."

Hi can i upgrade may lap top cpu (toshiba.satellate p15-s479)

it wouldn't be worth your time because you would need a new system board also. replacing a system board in a laptop is dicey because they don't always fit inside the case of a laptop. it would be significantly easier to just purchase a new laptop.
