The dryer is making a loud squeaking or squealing noise when in use. It seems to be intermittent but is getting worse as time goes on. What could be the problem and is it something and average guy can repair? Thank you.
I have one of these units. They are great appliances. What you have is a very common problem with these units, the drum support bearing is going bad. I think they make a repair kit, but it's a chore to get to. If you are mechanically inclined, you'll do fine. Just make sure you remember the order you took stuff off, and reverse it to get it all back together.

Belt needs to be replaced, have you ever had a car drive by and heard a squealing noise? dryer belts "glaze" and squeal due to wear just like the ones in your engine
I think the drum drive belt is slipping because it occurs more with a large load. Other possibilities are: A drum support wheel bearing could need lubrication or be replaced. Also some drum support wheels have a rubber coating that wears off causing misalignment and noise. Possibly drum gasket (sometimes felt material) where drum meets rear panel is worn allowing metal-to-metal contact--should be replaced.
