I had to install the 1.1 firmware update, but that alone didn't work. I also had to format the device (it's a checkbox when you run the update utility.)

On the back where you plug in the headphones there is a silver dial that clicks back and forth. If you read the cylinder that wraps around where the headphones plug in it says hold. Just click the cylinder to the other position and that should do it.

I just ran into this problem. You need to download the firmware update version 1.1 and load it. That did the trick for me. I'm not sure why I had the problem. My player was working fine -- although it probably ran out of juice and I needed to recharge it. Once I charged it, it wouldn't work. Once I loaded the new firmware -- it worked fine.

How do I get My e260 in recovery mode, it wont even come on?

1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds. 2. Release the Power/Menu button. 3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player. I do not think your model supports the recovery mode but you can try. 1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for 15 seconds to turn the device completely off. 2. Slide the Hold switch so the orange portion shows. 3. On your PC, double-click My computer 4. On your Sansa player, press and hold the REC button while connecting it to the PC. 5. Release the REC button when a 16MB-FORMAT drive partition appears under My Computer. This may not work on your player not sure of the Model cut off.
