Has anyone had a problem with a "lens error" on the Casio EX-Z750? Other forums are talking about this (dpreview.com in Casio Talk) and it concerns me. I have been comparing the Z750 with the Canon SD500 and need to make a decision. Thanks for your feedback
I got the error ONCE when I accidentally turned the camera on with my hand blocking the lens. I quickly went on the web and found the dpreview discussion and several others and took precautions to make sure it wouldn't happen again:
1. Disable the automatic turn-on when you press the play or record buttons.
2. Set the mode dial to audio record (the microphone) so that if you do turn the camera, the lens won't open as the first thing that happens.
But I have to say that (in my opinion) if you're getting the error after the camera's been dropped, you are probably out of luck, or at the least in for expensive repair.
As far as comparing with other cameras, I know that there haven't been as many complaints about a delicate lens-opening mechanism, so that may be a point you should consider. However the positive features of this camera were so great to me that, given the precautions mentioned above, I went out and bought a second one. Both still work fine (so far ...).

I have the z750:
Droped on pavement 3 times.
Opened in case once
Opened in pocket once.
Lens error: once (when opened in case). Turned it off/on and it went away.
Chose the z750 ove the SD500 because of the mpeg4 movie mode
