Question about Digital Cameras

9 Answers

Hello! I have a Samsung model S730 that will no longer turn on. It actually occurred while my wife had it so I don't know what might have preceded this, but the lens is in the extended position, the batteries are new, and nothing happens when you press the power button. HELP! Thanks in advance! - cnmark@comcast.net

Unfortunately, this camera is no longer under warranty and it very well may cost close to the cost of a new camera to fix it; thus I have nothing to lose by taking this thing apart if need be.

  • smoke-house Oct 01, 2008

I took the camera apart and tested the power button for continuity- it's O.K. Think maybe the motor is burnt out?

  • smoke-house Oct 01, 2008

Tried that as well- no luck. Also had to disconnect one of the ribbon cables to take it apart-some trick to getting those back in?

  • smoke-house Oct 02, 2008

Doesn't the camera need the ability to turn on to do this?

Try to clean the battery terminals, with a sand paper and brush it with a use toothbrush with an alcohol.

TIPS:
1.)NEVER PUSH THE LENS IN AFTER CAMERA DIES, BUY A NEW BATTERY IMMEDIATLY AND TURN IT BACK ON, CLOSING THE LENS!

2.)NEVER USE AN AC ADAPTER, USE A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY OR A REGULAR BATTERY!

..to fix this...

Do as i say..

1.) Remove battery
2.) Remove front plate (screw driver may be needed)
3.) Check all gears, make sure they are correctly fitted in place)
4.) Move the gear manually to make the lens come out.
5.) keep it out, put the front plate back together.
6.) reinsert the battery, turn it on.

or...
1.) Remove the battery.
2.) Wait about 6-8 hours.
3.) Reinsert the battery.

or...
1.) Remove the battery.
2.) Try hooking it up through AC adapter, put correct voltage.
3.) Try turning it on.
4.) Remove AC adapter, reinsert battery.
5.) Turn it on.
If nothing happens just tell me..

Hope this may help;

I had a similar problem with my vivitar camera. The lens had jammed in an extended position.
When you tried to switch on, it would whirr slightly, but do nothing else.
I tried opening it up, but couldn't find anything inside that I had the confidence to mess with.
I had just about given up when I tried a gentle application of force to the body of the lens, pushing it back into the body.
This got it past whatever was jamming it and it has worked fine ever since.

Sir, better to send it to repair service because it might be broken inside. thats why the lens was extended is because its not function properly. almost digital cameras are when you push the button off the lens should be back and close. but in that form it didnt got close. if you have the memory card from your camera then save it to your computer because it might get broken or damage. hope that helps sir!

Hi,
Make sure the batteries are properly inserted or not... Even i had the same problem.. I held down the power button for several seconds. I don't know if this will work for you, but it got my camera working again.
If its under warranty, please return it to the samsung service center. To repair the camera please use our Fixya service by entering the ZIP code of your location to know the nearest service center.... Have any queries, please let me know..
Thank you......

First off how long have you owned the camera? So nothing is happening at all when you power it on? Look downard at the lens and see if the gap around the lens is different anywhere. If so the lens is likely out of whack. If so let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate the solution accordingly and I can assist you further with any questions.
Thanks,
Lee

Please look at the lens and see if the gap around the lens is larger anywhere. This will be the first sure sign that it is a lens problem then you can move from there.
    Thanks,
    Lee

Was it dropped or bumped at all. You should try to push the lens back in. If it won't go, you should take apart the outer panel and look for loose connections and see if the gears are stuck for the lens and then fix anything that is found to be wrong. There is probably a broken connection if there is no power at all. Have you tried connecting it to a computer to see if anything will happen as that may reset something.

If you have tweezers, they are generally one of the easier ways for getting those ribbon cables back together

I'm thinking this camera was drop thats why this problem is happening, and this can be a mechanical problem inside the camera that some of its parts is loose now that's why it wont even power ON and the lens is not retracted and in fixing this the camera should be taken apart , but if the camera is still under warranty better take it to a service center or have it replace....

Hope that helps.........

Ok if you have knowledge in taking apart a camera that will be better and also you will need some device in taking it apart but having it fix from a repair center wont really cost you that much its better to have it repair by them to avoid further problem with it...

Where can I download a free Samsung S730 digital camera users manual

I couldn't find an actual .pdf download for the manual, and strangely samsung seems to have removed the S730 from their download pages. But I did find an online version that you can scroll through. Its the 98 page manual that covers both the S630/S730 cameras. The link is posted below. Hope this helps!

Problem with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 Digital Camera Model DSC-S730 Camera flash is not working

You must verify how you set the flash: auto, on or off. Set it "on" and try it. If it not work so, it's out of service. In "auto" mode it's possible to not work sometimes because light sensor.
