Question about Lexmark T642 Laser Printer
I had just pulled the T642 out of the box, reseated the cartridge after removing all the tabs necessary. Power it on and i get this message saying close door or insert cartridge. I have tried 3 different cartridges, checked the door hinges and sensors to make sure everything looked ok. No matter what I do it gives that message after it boots up.
Check in your backside of printet any paper jam
pull that paper thats it.
also pull the cartridge and refix again it

The reason that the error message is vague and says to close door OR insert cartridge is because it doesn't know which condition is causing the error.
There is a switch, located in the left hinge, on the front cover that must close for the printer to work.
When the cover is closed AND a cartridge is installed, part of the cartridge pushes the spring clip on the switch to the closed position.
If there is no cartridge, then the switch can't close, but like wise, if the cover is open, then the cartridge can't hold the switch in.
The problem I have seen with this printer many times, is that the silver actuator part of the switch actually falls off of the switch. There is nothing for the cartridge to press against, and therefore, the switch will not close.
If this is in fact an out of box failure, 95% of the time, lexmark will simply send out a replacement printer to exchange for the one that failed, but even if they do not exchange it, it is covered under warranty and they will send an onsite technician out to you to replace the part.
They would normally replace the entire front hinge assembly, part number 40X0006, which includes the switch. The number for Lexmark is 1-800-539-6275 Mon - Fri: 9 am - 9 pm & Sat: 12 pm - 6 pm

This repair worked like a charm for me. The little metal piece just pops right in when you take the switch out.
