It is hard to tell for sure at this distance, but if the fault is only a broken or burned cord, any competent appliance repairman, who is licensed to work on 240V gear, should be able to dismantle the case of the foot control and reconnect it.
If the foot control itself has burned out (they can do so) then the problem is more difficult. You might be able to find one second hand on eBay.

Thanks Geoff for your quick answer.
The problem is more complicated. To fix the cable where it enters ithe foot pedal presents no problem, but my husband tells tme hat when the connection shorted out it burnt most of the wiring inside the cord. The plug that gets attached to the machine is a sealed unit which seems to make it impossible for a new cord to be attached at that end. Any suggestions? I have trawled the internet in the hope of finding a new power cable, but no luck so far.

OK, I picture your plug at the machine end having 2 cords coming out, one going to the power at the wall, and the other to the foot control.

Each of these will have conductors inside probably carrying 240V. If you feel that the foot control is OK and not burnt up inside (this is a possibility), and that the only obstacle is that section of cord between the machine and the foot pedal, I would cut out the damaged section, leaving a stub at each end sufficient to attach a normal 240V power plug or socket like these

with a new piece of cord in between. All that can be bought from the hardware store. Now even though it is not fixed wiring, this job should really be done by a licensed person, as you MUST have the plug and socket the right way round, that is, the prongs of the plug must NEVER be live 240V when you are connecting things together. Also the polarity (which wire is which) must be maintained correctly.

At this range that is about all I can tell you.

Hi, my Bernina Minimatic has always threaded with no problem, but suddenly it just won't thread. I've checked all the usual things with no luck. Please advise.

Model 707? Are you sure needle is in with flat side to back and inserted all the way up?
Or is there a problem with take up lever

I am looking for a Bernina Minimatic (Probably a 1967-1969 model) please

Hello, Louise -

Are you looking for the sewing machine itself (to purchase) or are you looking for the manual for the sewing machine?

If you are seeking a manual, you MAY be referring to the Bernina 707 model. If so, you can find the manual to download for free (PDF format - you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software, fee) from the Bernina website, here:
https://www.bernina.com/en-US/SupportData/Out-of-Print/BERNINA_707_717_manual

If, when you look at your Bernina Minimatic sewing machine, you find a model number and it is not the 707 model, you can add the model number information to your question by clicking or tapping on Comment and entering the model number.

This is the link to the Bernina Customer Service web page where you can fill out a form to send an email message:

Best wishes.

What model singer buttonhole attachment will fit a Bernina 807 minimatic machine. This question was asked but I can't find the answer.

Most likely a Singer presser foot will not attach to your Bernina. They are not interchangeable.

You can also probably use something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOImaKwv4fU
but you need to purchase a snap-on shank adapter for your Bernina, like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PRESSER-FOOT-SNAP-ON-SHANK-ADAPTER-BERNINA-OLD-STYLE-530-1630-0062617000/282290526069?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40807%26meid%3D4fe9a7b6fca84bb3adef4f466cc8776f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D401187382421

Or, are you talking about the presser foot? Bernina #033? You can usually find a replacement through eBay, or even purchase a snap-on shank and pick up a snap-on buttonhole foot. But, if you have another zig-zag foot or open-toe presser foot, you can probably get by with using it as long as you can see your marks on the fabric when you stitch.

If you are actually referring to a buttonhole attachment like what is available for new machines, you may be out of luck. Probably not any available for this older model. The automatic buttonhole attachment usually has a sensor that your machine does not accommodate and the buttonhole attachments have a different shank that will not work on the older machines.

However, the buttonhole dial on your machine should work just fine. You just need to do more pre-work, ie measuring the button and marking the buttonholes on the fabric before stitching them. Even if the machine is only a zig-zag, buttonholes can still be done on them. Just be sure to practice a few buttonholes on scrap fabric before trying them on your garment. Get the stitch length so the zig-zag stitch has no gaps between threads but also does not overlap the thread next to it. Also, check that the tension does not cause the fabric to pucker (be sure to use a stabilizer between the fabric to prevent the fabric from stretching or distorting).

Can I use my Bernina Activa 145 walking foot on a Bernina Bernette715?

I'm guessing, but don't think they are interchangeable. From what I've read, the Bernette is actually made by Janome. It appears that the Bernette uses snap-on presser feet and also has a low-shank. The Bernina 145 uses a special peg-in-a-hole design to attach to the machine, although snap-on feet can be used on Bernina machines with a special snap-on adapter. But from the photos, I could locate on the internet, it appears the shank on the 145 is longer. If still in doubt, contact a Bernina dealer.

Try www.Sewingstyle.com. They carry a lot of parts for new and old machines. If they don't show it on their sight, drop them an email or call them. They may surprise you.

Good luck!

What is the difference between a bernina and a bernina minimatic?

Nothing at all apart from a few patterns and the size of the machine.

1967 Bernina 707 Minimatic is not running freely

Have you been oiling the bearings per the guide? Try to isolate the upper mechanism versus the lower by rocking the handwheel and observing which causes the bind (take the bobbin and needle thread off to prevent jamming). You may have to remove some of the covers to see most of it. As long as no gearing becomes shifted or uncoupled, you should not cause trouble. Try taking the motor belt off to see if the motor itself may be binding. Good to see people keeping old, but still working machines running
