Question about Frigidaire FAC124 wall/Window Air Conditioner

Using a Wall Air Condtioner in Window

I have a 12,000 BTU 220 Fridigaire that is currently in a wall sleeve. I am moving and would like to buy a kit that can install the mounting brackets to use in a window.

Is this possible? The A/C has the holes on top and side which I'm presuming is for the bracket.

If possible, where can I buy it and what is this kit actually called?

Thanks
Mike

I called Home Depot and they told me I cannot use a wall (sleeve) a/c in a window even with a kit, is this true?

Thanks.

It is called a mounting kit and can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, or an appliance store.

I need to know the BTU of our Whirlpool Air Conditioner ACQ158XSO

Th info I keep finding is 14,7000 which is just over 1 ton of cooling. Each ton is 12,000 Btu. Probably designed to cool about 400-500 square feet.

Happy to assist,

HOW MANY BTU IS THE AIR CONDITIONER?
And is it 110 or 220 line!

If it is using 110 or 115 volts like normal house current and it throws circuit breakers in your electric box, then you need to run a dedicated line just for the Air Conditioner!
Usually this happens to 110 -115 volt air-conditioners that are more than 12,000 BTU and do not have a dedicated electric line in the wall only for the air conditioner!

New air conditioners have a circuit breaker built into the units plug!
And I have seen some that throw that breaker to off frequently even if it's only an electric surge! Which it should not do!
if its the case and it's new, take it back to the store and ask for a different model, size, or brand!
Fedders had an 18,000 BTU/ 110-115 volt unit that did this with every single unit last year! I stopped selling that unit only!!

My son's landlord brought out a new Frigidaire 12,000 B.T.U. room air conditioner. He,(my son) plugged it in and the unit made a popping sound with a flash of light, followed by the smell of burnt plastic!...

hi,

possibly sounds like a household wiring issue, if the unit was brand new and somehow got your 120 volt air conditioner hooked up to 220, that would cause that. You may have to ask some questions about who wired that plug that the air conditioner plugs into. It could be the other way around as well is the air conditioner 220 volts and the plug 120? Have someone check the voltage coming out of the plug. the voltage for the air condtioner and the wall MUST match. If its 220, that was your problem and your air condioner will need extensive service/replace. If it isnt, and the air conditioner was subjected to the lower voltage , it could have caused that as well and the circuit board fried, but hopefully the major components are okay check to see if your wall voltage and your air conditioner voltages are the same, they have to be, your unit will need service either way but hopefully the latter which is cheaper, and call a licensed electrician to check out that plug.

Trru the Wall Oversized

Drop in a Frigidaire 25,000 btu, 230-volt Electronic Control Air Conditioner (Model #FAS256R2A). It is Way More Cooling than you need, but it is a very efficient unit and will provide quiet, nearly instantaneous room temprature reduction! Width 26-1/2... Height 18-5/8... Wall Sleeve Included... about $450.

Through the wall vs. window installation

window mount doesn't have to extend out on the back to clear the side /top intake vents because a window is about 2" thick,
but a wall mount has to have about 6 to 8 " clearing before the intakes vents can be exposed. you can't have your intakes buried in the wall.
in short if you see about 8 " of dead metal in the center area (just behind the window sill) then you can mount it in a wall as it will protrude far enough to clear the side /top intakes.

a sleeve just gives you a way to balance / attach to the outside wall
