    Hi Dan,

I am having difficulty locating the IC TA8427 (IC301)on the board, Would you be kind enough to point out on the photo.

  • tony golato Oct 01, 2008

    Hi Dan,

I finally located the 7 pin IC TA8427k it was behind the heatsink near the center of the board.(beneath the green wire in the picture) It was on the board position C314 and not IC301 is that ok? I also found IC TA8426 on the board any interest in that one? BTW the TA8427k at a local electronics shop is only $3.43 and I will pick up today.

Thanks for your help and I'll keep you posted,

    Regards,

    Tony

This weekend I relaced the IC TA8427 with a brand new one and the same problem exists.

    Thanks,

    Tony

This is a vertical circuit problem that is either bad connections on the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Look for a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering the pins first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. There may be defective caps in the circuit as well, but those don't usually cause complete vertical failure. If the picture does not return fully, update this and we'll continue on to the next step.

OK. The vertical IC is actually marked TA8427. On the board it will be IC301. This part runs about $6 on the web.

    Keep me posted.

C314 is in the same circuit but is actually a capacitor located close to that designation. You should see IC301 written on the board close by. Replace the IC and let me know what happens.

If replacing the IC didn't help, we now need to look at the supply voltage to the IC. If you feel comfortable with this, you now need to measure the voltages at each of the pins on the IC with the set ON. Please note that there are high voltages present that can be dangerous. If you don't feel comfortable with this, please do not attempt it. Post the voltages here for each of the pins. These should be measured in reference to ground. Usually I attach the black lead to the tuner for the ground.

Horizontal Line through middle of TV screen

This is usually a bad elect capasitor or a bad solder connection on the vertical IC, The capasitors will be close to the vert chip..Sometimes you can clear problem with a light tap on the TV, if so then suspect bad solder.

Screen black no sound or picture with line in center

this is a common problem, the vertical hold has been damaged.dont leave the teli. on,the white line will burn the middle of the screen and leave a black mark. You need a new integrated circuit(i.c.) for vertical hold.

The only thing that happens is the red power light is flashing

The Vertical output ic is bad la7832 also has an open resistor in power supply off of pin 7 the ic.
Root cause is probably the zener diode next to the IC itself MTZJ75

Problem with tv

Could be a horizontal output fault, faulty power supply, a simple dry solder joint or HVT. If you can hear arcing or smell an ozone odour, it will be the HVT which may cost a bit.

Without knowing the actual cause, it's impossible to say how much it would cost to fix it.... could be anywhere from $50 to $250 etc

Best to have it checked by a technician and get a quote to repair... then decide if you think it's worth it.

Toshiba is generally a reliable brand, so if you were happy with the picture quality before the fault occurred, it's probably worth repairing.

Cheers

T.V. has no picture

I noticed a bright horizonal line about 1/4 in.wide centered in the middle running from side to side. Audio is fine. This just all of a sudden happened it was not gradual. it is due to vertical section failure. please minimise bright to protect crt. solution. solution 1 check supply to vertical section. 2 check for ic failure in vertical section 3 check vertical output section parts. Is it fixable or dumpable?? Please HELP!!!! yes it is fixable it is common problem not major one. good luck.
