SOURCE: DVD Recorder Does Not Record

It took about 45 minutes, without a manual. Carefully disconnecting all cables and marking them so the would go back in the right place later. Carefully Disassembling the unit, removing the cover - 6 screws, noting all screws and where they came from, pulling the front panel using the plastic tabs, removing the top front edge cover - two screws, removing the disk assembly - 4 screws, pulling the two thin leads so I could pull the entire assembly out. Removing the back plastic cover from the DVD assembly and identifying the Optical Disc Lense. Spraying some LENSE CLEANER on the same cloth that I clean my glasses with, and carefully wiping across - gentle stroke in same direction, then opposite direction - a few times. Spray lense cleaner on the cloth not on the lense. Reassemble. Reverse order of above. Works great now. BEST OF LUCK....Or you can find almost any DVD repair facility. This is not a unique process. SOURCE: Will not record onto blank DVD's from HDD on LVW-5045 HDD-DVD 160 gb

Hi Barry - I too have a Lite-on and was initially over the moon with it. For the last year or so I have been unable to "read" disks and was just using it for the hard drive for recording - but this weekend my father in law had the exact same problem occur to his Lite-on and he bought a dvd cleaner (£5) - used it and it solved it - So I tried it and presto mine is reading and writing fine again - I was so chuffed - need to share this simple info just in case its a simple "dust" problem for anyone else that is having reading problems. DVD cleaner not just a CD cleaner as DVD cleaners have two brushes on it.

SOURCE: Loading DVD-RW discs

My recorder has stopped accepting NEW DVD-RW discs and ejects them.
There is no problem loading DVD-R (new or recorded)or loading previous recorded DVD-RW, initializing and re-recording
I have tried several different DVD-RW makes. Puzzling??

SOURCE: When I record a dvd on my vr375 it will not play

before the disc will play on other players, you need to "finalise" the disc. Finalisation ensures compatibility with other devices. Go into the "Setup" menu, and look for "Disk Manager", there will be a finalise option. select the option, and after approx. 3mins the disc will play on other players.

Can't record DVD's

Hello there.

As per http://www.videohelp.com/dvdrecorders/cinevision-rv4000/881
you can see that your DVD player only supports writing to DVD+R
or DVD+RW, not DVD-RW or DVD-R.

Hope this helps.

Trying to write to blank disk first time (Memorex CD-RW). Get message: Record failed: wrong format for re-write Spectroniq SDR-205 DVD Recorder

Some DVD recorders cannot write CD-RW - only DVD-RW (+ and -) as well as DVD-R (+ and -) (this depends on the brand/model). This unit probably does not support CD recording. Try using DVD-RW instead for this machine - see if it records that (do not finalise even if unit prompts you to with an on-screen message prior to ejecting disc).

There are DVD players and recorders which can play CD-RW (mp3, jpegs etc.) but I don't know of any which record this format (a PC CD/DVD-ROM drive can do this though).

My disc records fine, plays great on the Magnavox, but no other player can read the disc?

You must finalize a disc before it can play on other machines. Please refer to your documentation for how to finalize a disc.

I PUT IN A NEW BLANK DVD THE RECORDER PREPARES TO RECORD THEN AFTER ONE MINUTE IT STOPS RECORDING . I OPEN & RECLOSE THE TRAY & THE RCA RECORDER SAYS BAD DISC.

Some DVD players need to format the DVD+/- R disc before it can be used to record on this is a bit strange as its a WORM (write once read many) disc this is usually what happens with DVD+/- RW media.

If the DVD recorder doesn't finalize (the process that makes it compatible with other players) the DVD+/- R correctly then is will be rendered useless, another coaster for you to use with you cuppa.

I suggest that you use DVD+/- RW media that doesn't need finalizing at least until you can sort out your problem.

WRT your problem with it only recording for a short while it might be that the DVD stops spinning you might need to take the cover off and check this.

Won't work with the same kind of discs i've used before

I not sure as to which type of Discs that you are refering to (ie DVD+R or DVD+RW). This player will only recognize 4x (max) DVD+RW and 8x (max) DVR+R discs. If the DVD+R Disc is 16x, the DVD recorder will not recognize it once you start to record. The player will read the blank Disc and give the impression that it will record on it. I have noticed that when a 16x speed Disc is in the Drive, The recordable hours for the disc seems to double. The normal 6 Hour recording length comes up as 12 Hours when you hit the info button. Since the 8x Speed (max) discs are not available any longer, I found it best to use the DVD+RW 4x Discs and make it compatible. I then copy the compatible DVD+RW disc to a 16X DVD+R disc using my computer DVD burner. The DVD+RW disc can then be erased so that it can be reused.

Any dvd-r or dvd-rw (+ or - for dvd r, not sure for rw) should work, check the user manual incase. dvd-r only lets you burn once, dvd-rw lets you erase the disk

Recording from vhs to dvd

As long as you've got the DVD recorder set to the correct "channel" I can't see why it won't work. Why don't you just try it out on a DVD-RW first ? Use RCA cables from the VCR "OUT",  to the DVD recorders "IN" sockets and you'll be okay. If for some unknown reason it doesn't copy you haven't used a good disc. Probably won't copy anything with Macrovision(or other copy protection) though.

RCA DRC8295 DVD Recorder

I also was having same issue's with blank DVD's with 16x or higher ratings. I remembered that when I first used the recorder their was only 1-4x write speeds available so I started to look for these specific dvd's. It took me a while but I did find some and ordered a set of 25 five to try and the recorder worked.

So the issue is that the recorder will not read any dvd rated more than 4x, and the under side of the dvd's rated 8x and faster are a different color that the laser is not able to read. The dvd's are made by Philips brand rated at 1x-4x and are DVD+RW, I haven't found the DVD+R' yet but am still looking.

I found these DVD's at www.tigerdirect.com and the minimum amount was a 25 disc spindle but I think you could get 50 or 100 but am not sure so look around a bit but these will work. I put one in my DVD recorder and was formatted within a minute and was asked if I wanted to name the disc which I had not seen in a while.

Anyway you all can use your recorders again and my dad will get to use hid for the first time as he has had this problem right out of the box!!! I think the owners manuel specify's you to use 1x-4x but am not positive.
