Does the player play Audio disks? if so then it could be a software issue. It sounds more like the CD laser has died on your unit. The CD/DVD unit has two lasers, one for the CD side of things and another for the DVD. If still under warranty get replacement.
Hope this helps.

Are you able to read CD's and DVD's using the Optical Drive ?If yes, then it may be a problem with the lens in the drive. It can also be an issue with the software that you are using to burn Cd's ( like Nero ).If you are not able to Read and write Cd's or DVD's and the Optical drive isnot listed in " My Computer" then it can be either a driver issue or registry filters issue.Let me know abt this

I have purchased a tsst ts-t633a external dvd +-RW drive to link with an acer aspire a0531 netbook. The drive will read and write CDs but not recognise DVDs. Can anyone help?

You need a software made for DVDs which you can use for the CDs to.
To read DVDs (and CDs) use Power DVD.
To burn DVDs (and CDs) use Nero DVD. You may purchase them almost to any PC shop.

This is just an example. You may find some free software on the Internet but if you are not used with this I suggest to ask a friend to help you or to buy a software as I have already said.

My DVD drive in ACER Aspire 4720 not reading burnt DVDs and CDs

well look for cds that are thicker and sturdier. some low cost CDRs are too thin and/or soft that they cant handle the heat generated by the cd drive.
