Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a laptop that is just over a year old, fresh out of warranty. While in warranty it stopped playing, it would sometimes shut down while it was being used, and wouldn't come up to a windows screen. Tech support went through their paces and felt it was a hard drive. The hard drive was replaced and the backup disks were used. It worked at first, and always boots with the disks in it. However, it does the same thing, so clearly it wasn't the hard drive. The computer will always come up if the backup disks are in the drive, and it works fine until it goes to screen saver or sleep, then it doesn't come back on to the screen. If you reboot after this, it won't come up. So then if you let it sit, like a day, and try it, it comes up again. Another issue which I think might be related is the wireless quit working. HP tech support said it was the software and they needed to format the hard drive with the original settings. Odd, since it was working fine and not settings had been changed. The tech support guy said he couldn't figure it out, so he would call back. Of course he didn't. So the wireless doesn't work, it is like you can't install the software, because it can't find the hardware, but it detects it, then asks for the software. If you install it, it then can't find the hardware. I don't know if they are related but since we have the same situation after a new hard drive and reformat. I just don't know, and it’s out of warranty now.

Well you got a few problems there, sounds pretty bad. I would really recommend taking the laptop to a local professional pc repairer, maybe a small company with small prices.

This requires some testing by being at the computer, testing and checking components.

Try reinstalling the system again from backup disk.

If this does not fix the problem, then there is a fault, in this case use the guaranty again.

Regarding the wireless card, you may need to reinstall the driver again.

Go to my Start>>computer>>device manager in windows, if you get a yellow sign on top of some devices , then you will need to reinstall drivers for those devices.

Here is download link: HP Support & Drivers

Just select your model and follow instructions, once you download driver file, start downloaded file, this will install drivers and fix most of your problem.

If you cannot locate the driver download on website above, tell me model for your laptop.

If wireless is not built in the laptop tell me wireless card make and model.

My laptop battery sometimes gets so hot when I'm charging it that my pc shuts down

It might be to do with Windows 8, but what would be overheating is your processor or RAM. If it is the battery, Windows 8 might be too much drain, or it's simply coincidence and your battery is had it.

Laptop overheating

strip the laptop down, get to the cooling fan for the CPU and GPU and remove it. loosen the screws in accordance with the numbers on the sink. remove existing thermal paste with nail varnish remover and a clean cloth off both fan and CPU and apply fresh stuff. this is important because the old paste is burnt on and no longer aiding heat to pass through it. also the laptop is shutting down after a while because the fan heatsink is clogged with debris clean that out by removing the little fan itself out of the heatsink. this is most likely your problem if the laptop is over 2 years old. any help you need just ask :)

Hi, I have a CD which has become stuck in my Dell Studio laptop, which is less than a year old. As it's a slot and not a drawer, there's no hole to put a paperclip into. The computer doesn't actually...

Mechanical failures and jams are a real pain. As it is still under manufacturer's warranty, (if bought within the EU), I would be inclined to return it to your dealer and have the DVD recorder/player replaced.
If not the laptop will have to be disassembled and the DVD recorder/played replaced or repaired. To repair it is too complicated to go into but there is a mechanism motor, (sometimes the traverse or disk motor is employed for this job) and removal of the casing should show up your problem.
Hope this helps

My ds just crashes--shuts down--when playing. Is

The same thing happened to my DS that was 3 years old. But at a point it didn't even turn on. The top screen made a quick blink then it turned back off automatically. I suggest you just get a new DS (I got a DSi) because a new battery is VERY expensive.

Answer:It is definitely the battery, though.

I have a one year old 32" LCD that just stopped playing. The t.v. just shut down. No power light, no nothing ! I don't see an obvious "re-set" button, or possible fuse location. Can you...

Most sets have 1 year warranties. I would first attempt to get this repaired under warranty. A few calls to management should help in that regard. If that attempt fails, could you please privide us with the make and model. That will allow us to give you details on what can be the problem and what to do to resolve it.
Thanks,

Does not power stay on

try this with just the ac plugged in and the battery removed. Sometimes the battery, when fully discharged, can cause the system to shut down.
