Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Samsung 52" TV. Last night all by itself the TV just went off. A red button right underneath power button is lit, says timer. I cannot get the TV to go on with the remote or manually. Do you think by accident the timer button was set? Can you help me. Thanks.

Hi, me again. Can you tell me what an IF and IC is. My husband is trying to solve the problem, but don't know if he will have any luck. Thanks.

If this red button is lit is it flashing? If it is count the flashes and the gap between them as it is displaying an error code to you. Usually when a tv is stuck in standby or dead the first place to check would be the power supply board. Check all the diodes first as I have found that a faulty one can do many strange things. If you are not able to check this yourself please do not try find a competant technician. Hope this helps.

The only other things I can suggest is to check the I.F and line output board for a faulty I.C. Otherwise I am stumped!!! Sorry I could not be more help.

  • Paul Sep 29, 2008

I.F stands for intermediate frequency and I.C stands for intergrated circuit. If your husband knows how to circuit test then look for the line output transformer on the circuit board, it should be black or grey in colour witha red lead sticking out of the top of it going to the tv screen. Check the components on that board for the correct voltage but DO NOT check the transformer or any large capacitors as some of these carry thousands of volts and only specialist equipment can be used. If he does not have the knowledge to circuit test but has an understanding of what each component should do then it will take a long while but check each component induvidually for the right parameters, and re-check the power supply board this way. An I.C is what some people call microchips and on the power supply there might be a couple with between 4 and 8 pins coming out of them, and at a guess they are voltage regulators which may have blown and taken out something else along with it. If he does not have a knowledge of what the components are and what they should do/read PLEASE call a competant technician as its dangerous voltages in a tv even when apparently dead. Hope this helps. Please post how you get on.

Heard a pop, tv went off, then doesnt come back on

Your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur. The sound is it starting up, shutting down, over and over.

You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done.

Green timer light wont go away

The TV is in protect mode because there is an internal fault.
The TV must be tested and repaired at component level.
Call Mitsubishi at the number listed on the user manual.

Blinking Green Timer Light

I suspect the lamp area is VERY dirty as is the cabinet's filters and fans. This causes great stress on your tv and lamp. Take the time to clean all of them fully. Is the unit in a dirty area? or in a high temp area? DLP's dont like high temp or contaminated areas as they are NOT air sealed units.
