Glow plug for diesels

Truck wont start in cold weather

  • Anonymous Dec 02, 2011

year model? Engine size? I need a little more information than ford won't start when cold. I would guess either the glow plug relay or the actual glow plugs themselves are bad, but usually the glow plug relay, because if it were just one or two glow plugs it would start, but run like ****.

Starter problems

It's diesel. Diesel engines do not like cold, but that is normal. I am going to assume this engine has a start delay in cold weather to allow for Glow Plugs to warm up the cylinders before actually turning over the engine. I don't know about TDI's specifically, but I think a TDI Mech at your local Volkswagen dealer could confirm my assumption. They may call the parts something different, but the function will be the same. Sounds like normal operation for a diesel engine in cold weather...obviously, this would be why the engine always turns over immediately in warm weather...no need for the Glow Plugs to warm the cylinders. Best of luck resolving this problem.

Diesel renault b56 wont start if cold

No. Diesel engines have very high compression and require powerful starters to turn over. Cold engines turn over even harder. Batteries for Diesel engines must be robust. Cold weather robs batteries of power. If the battery is more than 2-3 years old, it is probably the battery, but definitely NOT the glow plugs.

In winter time my 2004 Outlander takes a while to start-sounds like flat battery-but in summer all good. The battery on it's way out?

hi.
it is possible that the battery is at fault

if you have a DIESEL engine, then the fault is far more likely to lie with the engine preheat plugs (glow plugs) these are needed far more in the cold weather to pre heat the cylinder to allow the diesel to ignite. one or more faulty glow plugs will cause starting problems on a diesel engine, especially in cold weather.

Won't start below 40 degrees, wait to start light does not even come on

Your glow plug controller is out, or there is an interruption in its power source, etc. Diesels are coldblooded by nature, and most need glow plugs to heat them up before starting in cold weather. The controller supplies the power to the glow plugs, but if it goes bad, or its supply of power isn't there, it won't start in cold weather, and that wait to start light which is also controlled by it won't come on.
