SOURCE: microwave does not heat

What could cause this problem coud be a bad door switch, a bad HI Voltage capacitor, a bad power transformer, a bad Rectifier, a bad magnatron,or a bad circuit control board. Any one of these repairs could run from 65 to fix, all the way up to 200 bucks. You are probablt right, its time to buy a newer type with more lights, bells, and whistles. Good Luck

To bqb17:

Samsung will only cover the cost of the magnetron (if that's the trouble) but they will require you to pay the service call labor (maybe $75) and on-site repair labor (maybe $50-90).

You can save a little by removing it from the wall yourself and taking it to the servicer. They would likely charge a bench fee of about $25 to check it out.

Are you sure the serial # is not located on a tag around the door frame or inside?

To guest:

Your oven's failure to start isn't the same problem bqb17 is having. His starts, it won't heat. So it would have been better to post a new thread.

But even so, I would suspect you have a bad door switch or door switch mount. Forget any talk about a "voltage stabilizer".

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

This is usually a shorted high voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

You can order Samsung parts here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Some manufacturers will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.

You can find your nearest Samsung-authorized service center here.

Chances are you have a shorted high voltage rectifier, which is pretty easy and inexpensive to replace, or a shorted magnetron, which is more work and money.

We have the service / repair manuals for this model and have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

They will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

Most computers will open these documents automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader.

Here are some links you can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

You have two options:

1. You can purchase a new control circuit board (part number RAS-SOTR2-00 ) from the Pros here for $76.17. They're our favorite supplier.

At our Web site , we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and swap the new circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

2. Or we can repair yours for $39.95. Details are here.

Worked fine last night but dosen't work today. Controls and settings etc all work, the unit simply dosen't heat anything.

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

This is a job for a professional but if you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!any capacitors are discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!), the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

Microwave works fine, but wont heat food....

I would say the high voltage rectifier diode has blown.

See http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html for help in diagnosis.

Okay, now that I see the model number, that's a US model:

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

Kenmore Microwave Hood Combination: over the stove Model #721.80602500

Disclaimer: I'm a DIYer, not a technician.

Our GE over-the-range microwave stopped producing heat yesterday while warming part of the T-giving feast. Everything else (fan, control panel, light) works fine.

After disassembly and testing last night, I discovered a defective "secondary door switch." Your Kenmore uses a similar switch (~$19 on-line), and that might be the problem. But it also could be other things, such as a bad thermal cut-out.

If you know anyone who's handy with a multimeter, most of the basic diagnostics seem to be pretty straightforward.
