Laptop yes I have AT&T wireless-with just the PC card it worked ok before-then was at a hotel last weekend and may have clicked on something I shouldn't have(possibly something about an address?) to get it working there-now at home it just works with the ether cord hooked up-no green light on the PC card-no wireless connection

First, you need to look in bottom right corner of your screen and click on an icon that looks like a pc. This wiill open up the wireless tool.

Second- from the list you will click on the wireless network (probably the name of hotel)

Third--put in password supplied by hotel

I'm using a Toshiba C 1.8 14X256M 20 CD Satellite A10 system unit model no psa10L... I do not know if I can connect to wireless lan in hotels. How do I know if my laptop has wireless modem? And if it...

I just googled "toshiba a10" and looked at the specs. It has wireless support but no wireless built in. just buy a 802.11 wireless dongle and plug it into the usb ports and away you go.

Unable to connect to wi-fi

I think it is saying that the wifi "card" is set so that it is not being configured by windows.

In XP

Control panel > Network connections

Under LAN or High-speed internet you will see an icon labelled wireless network connection. Right click on this and then click properties. You will see three tabs at the top
General - Wireless Networks - Advanced

Click on wireless networks
There should be a tick-box saying Use windows to configure my wireless network settings. I expect that, in your case, the box is unticked which means that the software supplied by the vendor of the wifi card is configuring the settings. I find that it is usually more reliable to let windows do it.

So tick the box and click OK. You may then have to reboot.

Laptop connect to public wireless network, but not internet

Sometimes they set the wireless to be unsecured. But you have to pay to use them.
Please check with the hotel staff about setting it to use.
If its completely free, double click the network icon on the task bar, click support tab and click repair.

PC CARD WONT WORK

Sounds as though theres no power getting to the card if theres no light on it - the dell 6XX series has a weakness in the PCMCIA connector too - it can easily flex and seperate from the socket on the motherboard over time and especially in transit. I wouldnt suggest trying to fix it yourself but dell will send someone out to fix it if its under warranty or for a small fee if not. hope this helps
