From with the windows Control panel their should be option called synaptic control panel. From with-in here you will be able to reset the device.

Also I check with the manufacture of the laptop for driver updates for the Synaptics mouse

How do I post a message on my timeline on facebook and send it, I am using a tablet not a pc.

You might try COPY/PASTE:
CLIPBOARD
A virtual, temporary storage area. Information (in the form of text, files, graphics, sound or video) can be copied to the Clipboard from one program or location and pasted elsewhere. The Clipboard can only hold one block of information at a time. Whenever something is copied to the Clipboard, it replaces whatever was there before. There are many platforms which support the Clipboard function.

COPY TO CLIPBOARD
Point mouse cursor to beginning point in text to be copied. Press and hold the "ctrl" key on the keyboard and click mouse. Entire section of text will be highlighted in blue. [NOTE: If only a portion of what you wish to copy is highlighted, then move mouse cursor to end of text, press and hold the "shift" key and click mouse]. Right click mouse and select "copy" from the menu window that opens.

PASTING FROM CLIPBOARD
Open the window you wish to place the copy (e-mail, FB profile page--status box, etc), click where you wish to place copy, then right click and select "paste" from the menu window that opens. NOTE: Edit as you would normally typed text.

[shortcut paste: press and hold ctrl key and press letter "V"].

Why is my spacebar scrolling at times?

Hi Norman,

The keyboard acts as a text tool when you've clicked in a text box and as a scroll button when you click outside a text box on a web page. Since you say you have a laptop, I'm guessing that you click the text box to type, start typing, and while you're typing, your palm touches the mouse track pad just enough to register as a click while the mouse cursor is elsewhere on the page. I'm not sure if there's a setting to make the space bar stop scrolling altogether but there are settings to make the track pad less sensitive if your track pad manufacturer supports it. For WIndows 7, go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound and click Mouse under Devices and Printers. As mine is a Synaptics device, this window gives me an extra tab with extra settings. It may be worth checking out yours to see if you can turn down the sensitivity. Some laptops also have a handy key combination to turn the track pad on and off. Mines Function F7, but it's probably manufacturer specific. Check your laptop documentation to see if this might be an option.

I need to copy text with this built in mouse on my Toshiba laptop...cannot figure it out.

Hi there! To copy text follow these steps, 1) Put the mouse cursor at the beginning of the text you want to highlight. Click the left mouse button and then drag the cursor to the end of the text that you want to copy. The text should now be highlighted blue. 2) Right click on the highlighted blue text 3) Left click on the "copy" option in the menu that just opened.
If you cannot get the right click menu to work, there is a keyboard shortcut for "copy" - CTRL-C After the text is highlighted, press those two keys at the same time to copy.
To paste, right click where you want the text to go, then select "paste" - keyboard shortcut is CRTL-V

My Acer 5810T laptop touch pad click function is not working, however the cursor/mouse movement via the touch pad is working well

In the bottom left of your screen by the clock there should be an icon that says touch pad device, synaptics touch, or something along those lines. If you click on this it will give you different options for the touch pad and one of them is tap to click, make sure this is turned on.

To adjust your mouse movements: To change the pointer speed and customize your cursor, please do the following:
  1. Launch SetPoint (Start > Programs > Logitech > Mouse and Keyboard > Mouse and Keyboard Settings).
  2. Select the My Mouse tab and click the Mouse Movement tab on the left. Select the Wireless Mouse M505/B605 from the Select Mouse drop-down list.

I'll move the cursor to one spot on the desktop and it will move itself to another....windows 7

You mean, the cursor is erratic and moving all around here and there?

Decrease the Touchpad Sensitivity...

I see that your Laptop was shipped with Windows Vista and it seems you are using a Retail version of Windows 7. Specially, HP/Compaq Laptops is designed for Retail versions and you can face some device/driver functionality issues. But, you can still try the followings.

As per my knowledge, your Laptop has the Synaptics Toucpad.

To Change the Sensitivity of the Touchpad:
1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize > Mouse Pointers . The Mouse Properties settings window will open.

2. Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings. In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Sensitivity topic.
3. Select the PalmCheck option to adjust the sensitivity (decrease it) of the touchpad to avoid erratic cursor movement caused by accidental touching of the pad during normal typing.

If the Device Setting tab is missing.....

1. Click Start, in the Start search field type Msconfig and press enter.

"System Configuration Utility" box will pop up on the screen.

2. Click the Startup tab.
3. Search for "Syntpenh" entry and select the checkbox beside it.
5. Click OK. Restart the computer. Perform above step.

If you are still not able to perform the steps, update the driver from following link.

Synaptics TouchPad Driver: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp44501-45000/sp44969.exe

Restart the Notebook and check for the problem. It should be resolved now.

  2. Alternately, click Start and type Mouse in the Search field, and select Mouse when it becomes available in the program list. The Mouse Properties settings window will open.
  3. Select the Device Settings tab. Select the Synaptics TouchPad device and click Settings . In the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad window, expand the Sensitivity topic.
  4. Select the PalmCheck option to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad to avoid erratic cursor movement caused by accidental touching of the pad during normal typing.

Lately my touchpad welll cursor has been really playing up like when i rest the laptop on my laptop its fine but then when i rest the laptop on my sofa or bed the cursor starts to really play up and clicks...

Hi. I think the problem for your touchpad is just some settings on it, if your using the Synaptics driver for your touchpad you can check the option on the synaptics setting where you can disable your touchpad while you are typing or doing something else on your keyboard. If you could not find this options or settings on your laptop you could just download a software that does the same thing, disable your touchpad while you are typing so that it would not go erratic. here is the link http://tinyurl.com/nte6wu, click on this link it will redirect you to a website where you can download the software, but that is only if could not find the option on your touchpad settings, by the way try also your control panel and look for the mouse icon then for your touchpad settings. Hope this helps
