Sometimes when a flashmemory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed fromthe USB port properly. If the device is removed byjust pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, youmust click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select thedevice you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so When the flash memoryUSB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restoreit by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - AdministrativeTools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted itwill indicate that it is Healthy. You need to format the flash or external drive. Format thedrive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchangedbetween MACs and PCs also between XP/Vista and earlier versions of Windows). Otherwise format the USB flash drive in NTFS.

My pen drive(Kingston data traveller) did not detected by the pc.this may be due to the loss contact terminals. So Pleease advice me ,"How can I recover the data ? or Can i replase the...

if its the contacts in the usb port, you can just use another port, but if its in the pen drive its self there is no way of fixing it unless you or some one you might know is really good with micro soldering and can replace the 1 contact or all of them at the same time.

Don't detect usb, malfunctioned, don't recognised

Did you reinstall from the Dell "System Restore" CDs that came with your computer, or from some "generic" XP CD-ROM?

Access http://support.dell.com
Allow the web-page to "detect" your Dell "asset-key".
You'll be directed to a web-page containing downloadable "drivers" for your computer's USB-ports. Select, download, and Install those drivers.

Usb ports not working

All the USB ports were working before he installed SP3 and rebooted. After that only the mouse/keyboard ports worked. Same thing happened to me. No other changes were made, so something added/change by SP3 is the culprit.

Questions is...what did SP3 do to break USB and how to fix it?
