Motorguide brute 567, 67 lb. thrust

I have a hand operated trolling motor. When i turn the handle to go forward, the motor will not engage and it will not move forward. When I turn to reverse, it engages and moves backward. What is the problem?

Can you help me?

You will probably find it is either a switch problem or your wiring this is a twist handle?

there is contacts in there that will get worn and/or the wiring can break from moving back and forth

will just have to take switch apart and inspect

All motors will draw higher amperage with varying loads. Your hi speed motor winding has probably shorted some its winding's without having gone to ground. It probably needs to be replaced to get your hi speed back. I have run into similar problems in heavy commercial hydronic pumps. Best to have mechanic check it out. An OHM test with factory specs. will tell for sure.

I have a Motor Guide Brute 767, 67 lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor. It will only run at about half speed even with new batteries.

I believe you may have a bad low voltage circuit board problem. I do not think they make the board any longer but you may be able to convert it to work by bypassing the circuit board. I am working on one now.

Motorguide Trolling motor has low thrust in all five speeds

I have a 4 speed with 48 lbs of thrust. On mine, 1 through 3 will move me out pretty well, however, 4th is similar to an overdrive gear in a car or truck and is meant more for maintaining a speed with less draw on the amps.

I certainly wouldn't want to take off with it. I suspect it is the same with your 5 speed. The boat needs to be up to speed and then those two gears will maintain it, with 5th being optimal as far as low draw in amperage.
